Footy season is like a marathon

I've noticed many blogs after the eels vs storm suggesting that parra will cause no threat in this competition due to performances like yesterday's one.Sure parra has had some ordinary games this year but let me just say that games like yesterday are easily reversible.Prime examples are the roosters and cowboys 1st round clashes were the eels were humiliated only to play these teams not long after and come away with wins. The encouraging thing is that when the eels play to their potential they can beat any side in this competition.I've noticed that their is no powerhouse team this season that will just easily runaway with the competition like the roosters or melbourne of previous years. The season is played for 30 weeks where winning half of the home and away matches should guarantee a finals berth. The way were going it seems like a formality that we'll be competing in September. When these big games arrive I can definitely say that their will be no repeat of these occasional poor showings by the eels.On another note I suggested a few weeks ago that parra should still tinker with their side even though they'd just came away with some impressive wins.I was shot down by most people but I'd like to repeat that we have far better options than players like Joseph Paulo and Willie Tonga that will make our team even stronger than what we've already shown this year.

  • Raid so true. All because you are winning doesn't mean you cant tinker with the side if it means improvement.
Would swapping Paulo, Tonga and Terepo improve our side heading into the business end?
Bet your arse it would. We have better options but for some silly reason, love or loyalty, BA wont make the changes.
  • Great blog raid I agree 100% with the tinkering
  • Still not convinced Morgan is a better option than Tonga. Does he even know there is another bloke outside of him. He bombed one try yesterday because he never even looks to see if his winger was in position. The stupid git needs to learn to pass the fekin ball.

    • Fair points Waterboy, but answer this.
Could Tonga score the tries Morgan has?
Probably not. Doesn't have the speed any more.
Could Morgan score the tries Tonga has?
Yes. Again the speed would suggest this.
Sure Morgan needs to pass more but it begs the question.
Does BA get up him for it? If he doesn't then he needs to.
  • Tonga may not score the tries Morgan did last night but he would have put Vai in for the two Morgan scored plus at least one more. Dont get me wrong i like Morgs, he just needs to learn that a try for the team is as good as getting one himself.

And yes it is something he can fix, hopefully BA is addressing it. Until he does, id have Tonga any day.

  • All players have strengths and weaknesses, Morgan is execellent in broken play becuase he is deceptively fast and good on his feet, but he really doesn't offer very much at all against a reasonable line of defence or where what is required is a nice catch and pass.

Personally I think an NRL quality centre should be setting up more tries than he scores, Radradra, Sio and Toutai have really benefited from Hopoate and Tonga's vision and nous and I wouldn't be passing that up for Morgan, he is a great backup to have though.

  • Great blog Raid. Agree . Eels had zero ball they(storm) got 18 up. We came back at them and then faded after the sin bin. We played with no luck and a lot of drop ball. But unlike the last few years it showed if we get on song we can definitely compete the 8. De gois is doing well but would love to get peats back and hoppa.
  • I watched replay in a more relaxed state just now and believe we could have won with a bit more commitment. We were on a roll at halftime. Slater milked a penalty as well as Gower incident. Sandow being sent to bin changed our momentum. Only lapses in defence hurt us. We can improve and could beat them when it counts God willing. That as well as the ref. I think we are still in 8th spot just in front of Tiges.
    • Storm did what Storm does in Melb exceptionally well in that first 20 mins especially yesterday.

We have a young and relatively inexperienced pack in comparison that was steamrolled by them through the middle early and with a little help from reffs also. We made costly errors and this time we payed

Refs made 'errors' and we payed for that too.

Our young team will have learned plenty from that yesterday.
