Fitness

Is it just me, or does the side look unfit?

Feel like we're just not on a level playing field when it comes to fitness.

This is evident by our poor defence, good defence side that play that up an in defence have to be super fit, this side clearly is not there.

I appreciate Ryles wanted to implement some changes and stamp his authority, but surely fitness is key irrespcetive of your other plans for the team.

Our forward pack needs a revamp and the most experienced players need to be on the field.

  • If being honest I think last game was first to demonstrate it. Look how we finished games in first 5 weeks, he finished better than we start. If yoh are unfit you don't do that.

Last year was opposite, started great then fell apart.

  • 💯

  • I don't think it's fitness.   It's more a case of not controlling the ball and making schoolboy errors in each of our big losses

Bad passes from dummy half, kicking out on the full, play 1 drops, stupid passes over the side line,  kicking earlier in the set, they're all contributing to having us having to defend ourselves out of trouble,  which is impossible - the fatigue factor will always catch up with you.

Moses coming back will improve our attacking structures,  but Ryles and his coaching staff really need to get on top of these errors straight away.    Brown as our attack coach has to get this crap out of our game.

Kautoga needs to get the ball and just run hard because he almost loses it on every occasion,  Dylan brown's brain snaps are ridiculous.  I don't think the dummy half Hopgood experiment is working but we'll see. Hawkins isn't the answer as a back up

  • I'm with chief on this one we aren't controlling the ball and our teams been asked to do to much defensively and is using up to much petrol.

As soon as we eliminate errors and get the small things correct we'll be alot more competitive.

The bars low for this team right now but the little things are going to make a big difference.

    • Absolutely Chief, Coryn. Without good ball control, it's game over for us (for most).

Errors 16-8, Completions 66-88%, tackles 362-250, 44% possession. With those stats and a nutter of ref, expect a huge loss.

You only needed to watch Ryles' body language in the box. That told us how he really feels internally - not the Mr Cool Cucumber in the presser.

PS: The Raiders given the game on a platter by us, were going down our left edge a lot (because they scored 70% there previous weeks) but once they started on our right edge I knew we were in trouble.

  • The mind goes before the body, they are mentally unfit not physically.

    • Yep, well said.

  • I don't think fitness is an issue, perhaps Juniors minutes against the dragons could have been better managed given he'd be playing in Darwin a week later? Errors are our problem.

  • It's more about starting games well and getting on the front foot.

Our hooker and middle rotation has been poor in the first quarter of games and we struggle from there on in to recover. And like others have mentioned, simple things like ball security, ill discipline and being smart with the ball in hand are killing us.

Need leaders with a voice to have composure and organise the team from the get go. Build a lead and dominate the ruck with good line speed, making a tackle stick and wrapping up the ball.

  • Not really any less fit than most clubs I think... we just play worse and make so many more errors which means we have to defend much more... or constantly be on the back foot... which would gas any team. It appears as unfit... but fitness is not the underlying cause.

That said... EXCEPTION... Shaun Lame... he has his hands on his hips and walks after about 2 mins... and that's usually about 15 mins before he's even taken the ball up once. If they put names on the back of jerseys, he should just have "whatever" on the back of his.
