Robert Finch has been boss of the refs for to long. They are getting worse, shocking decisions every game, basic mistakes common. The way they address players is a joke as well. We need it changed and done sooner rather than later. professional sport needs professional leadership.

Problem is, the refs are now controlling the game according to a 'schedule' and not applying their own interpretation or common sense to a given situation. In AFL, the commentators often congratulate the officials when they run with the play even when an infringement has taken place. More than an 'advantage rule' the AFL commentators describe it as the umpire 'having a feel for the game'.
This is where the NRL refs, in my opinion, continually get it wrong. In the modern game, a penalty late in the set very often leads to a try as the attacking team invariably set up a raid on the opposition's goal line with a full set of six against a defence that has already made 4 or 5 tackles. This is a massive advantage and potentially a game changer - very annoying if awarded for something trivial. We want to see games decided by the deeds of the players - not the whim of the refs.
The refs have to realise that nobody comes to the games to watch them blow the whistle. They get paid well these days (over $2000 per weekend) and there's no excuse for them not to do their job properly - i.e. so we're not constantly talking about them over the water cooler during the week.
It seems the refs actually look for a penalty to give the team with the ball some relief, in reality it is the defensive team who has the upper hand due to a good kick and chase and they should be allowed to retain it.
Just eff off Finch.
