Fijian Talent

Hey All,,,

Looking at the amount of successful and talented players from Fiji, maybe Paul Osborne and Co needs a trip to Fiji to seek out 2 or 3 players to the EELS.

Fijians have good footwork, fitness, speed etc (Lote Tuqiri, Wes Naiqama, Akuila Uate, Noa Nadruku, Peni Tagive, Petero Civoniceva to name a few). Then there is Jarryd Hayne -part Fijian...

Look at Akuila Uate, surely there must be a few more of them with talent like that over there playing park footy???

Then look at the Fijians in sevens rugby, freaks....

My thinking is they are not going to be on huge contracts, i think we could be well served to have a few to work with and develop. I am amazed at the footwork of Uate, and know there must be more like him??

Looking at big Petero, what a workhorse, good clubman, gives nothing less than 200% at any level. Must be more like him running around in Fiji.

Hope fully we dont end up with a Fijian halfback like the Tigers have!

He doesnt seem to do much except live off Benji and Farrar, with 75% of his passes going so far forward blind freddy wouldnt have trouble intercepting them.

That said though i think he is a minority, as the talent pool does seem to be in excess in Fiji at the moment!

Polynesians are lazy, look at Jarryd he can be lazy in defence when he stands 30-40m behind the play-the-ball. The only exception is probably Petero who like you said gives 200%

Robert Lui is his name ToMmYbOy, ive watched him play plenty for the under 20's at the Tigers, was a promising talent back then, but hasnt been able to replicate that form in the top grade. He doesnt seem to be real confident of his abilities when surrounded by Marshall and Farrar, and i think i know the passes you are talking about and yes they were shockers.
I think your right though, the talent pool in Fiji looks ripe for the picking, i mean if we can go to India to recruit, then why not Fiji? I for one certainly wouldnt knock back any player from there as long as he can do the job, and we dont pay overs.

As for Hamish below mate you are an ignorant redneck, your assumptions of Polynesians is unfounded and ridiculous, i'd expect that kind of unintelligent comment from Sinbad.

i rate lui pretty well I don't see what your talking about here he has a good running game and nice passes both ways and plays like a traditional halfback.

I notice many saying about polynesians in relation to this blog.

Fiji is not of Polynesia, it is actually seperate. But i do get what you mean.

Its not that DA doesnt like polynesians etc, i think its more he doesnt know how to coach them or how to get the best out of them??
