Fergo to stay for 22

Veteran winger to stay with Parramatta in 2022

Blake Ferguson's two-try performance in the Eels' mighty upset over Melbourne may well have saved the veteran winger's career.

The 31-year-old flanker has had a mixed season, at one stage being dropped, and had yet to be offered a deal for 2022.

But Fergy is a proven big-game player - as he showed against the Storm - and his manager Sam Ayoub is hoping to strike a new arrangement soon.
I've spoken to Fergy this week and while other clubs may be an option, he prefers to stay with the Eels.

"I will let Sam do the talking for me," he said. "He's never disappointed me in contract years."

    • Regardless, if he gets a better offer he should take it. But he likes the Eels and he wants to stay. That will make it easier for his manager to play ball and focus on driving Guthos' price upwards LOL.

    • Big agree! They were fantastic together against the Storm!

  •  I've been very impressed with Penisini in the centres and he seems to be improving with every game. I also think that Dunster has improved as well and should both be definite NRL starters. Sivo for mine hasn't been overly great this year and Ferguson has also had a mixed year but has definitely improved since being dropped. Another year of the Fergo would be out of place.

  • It would be a smart move having him for a year extra. I don't like sivo coming back to our wing tbh. He is far too slow and lazy. Should be transformed into a damaging back-rower maybe?

  • This has to be a 1yr deal and has to be for the right money. Fergo is passed his best and the Eels need to be looking to find the next up and coming winger. I don't think Dunster is that but he is worth keeping. The Eels need to take a leaf out of the Panther's book and ensure they have a number of younger players nipping at the top levels feet to keep everyone honest and fighting for their position.

  • Very open to Fergo getting another year as we bring Dunster through. Really need a replacement for Sivo given he'll need some time to get back into the swing of things next year.

    • Agreed. I think Sivo's road back will be a long one. He was struggling form wise prior to doing his ACL.

      • Completely agree. Sivo's injury has opened the door for Fergo. He should definitely be retained if we can fit him in.

I am quite a fan of Fergo. Our 2019 season revival was on the back of Fergo's early season form. He was the form winger in the comp for the first half of 2019. Sivo didn't really catch fire until the second half of the season.

  • I am ok with that, given Sivo will miss a chunk of the season early

  • He will retire an eel

"Exactly HOE. The club isn't trying to quell anything. These are part timers to add depth to the NSW Cup team. Every club has them, and these haven't been officially announced anywhere."

"His contract ends in late 2027, when he will be 31. Surely there won't be huge demand for him beyond that."
