Firstly, I'd like to apologise to everyone in here for posting about something which you are all no doubt sick of hearing about. Especially for my first blog topic.

But I've done a quick google search and I'm unable to find a comprehensive detailing of Parramattas "EXACT" breaches.

I'm not talking about 'they were over the cap here', or 'a third-party deal for so-and-so here'. I am talking about EXACTLY how much they were over, with EXACT dates. EXACT specifics on 'WHO' was promised 'WHAT'?

I want to see all of it. The proof, and everything that was used against Parramatta, and how it 'correlates' to the penalties given.

Because (correct me if I'm wrong here), I've not seen any evidence given publicly. I've not seen the specifics of figures, in relation to their specific time-periods. Just "They were over", and "They were doing this or that" without anything TANGIBLE presented to the public to back it.

I'm trying to understand exactly how the 'penalties' Parramatta received were calculated. Which is very hard without all the exact details.

How did they come up  '12 points' as the figure for deduction this year? "For breaches dating back several years."???

How do they calculate 'years' worth of penalties applied to a single (current) season? It makes absolutely no sense! Any breaches for previous seasons should be applied retrospectively to that season. So how is it all piled into this one?

The NRL can't say that they don't have the ability to apply penalties retrospectively, as there is documented history of them doing it, stripping trophies!

Penalties for last year, need be applied to last year. Unless they would have applied 12 points to each of these years! In which case, once again ... I want to see ALL THE EXACT DETAILS!

The NRL have brought the game into disrepute! Inflicting far more damage to the competition, its image and the sport, with their applied penalties, than the problems they sought to resolve!

What they did, I would liken to shooting a racehorse, that was found doping.

Every single team, and the integrity of the entire competition were compromised, BY THE PENALTY for a problem, which was issued by those whose SOLE PURPOSE .. Is to protect the integrity of the game!

And next year, they STILL want to take another piece of Parra! Well I want to see everything related to why!

You don't strip away the hope and happiness of a entire LEGION of people, without owing them a clear and detailed understanding of why. Especially in regards to disproportionate penalties, which seem to have been plucked out of thin air.

Along with this transparency, I believe the NRL have a responsibility to their position, to see that EVERY SINGLE OTHER TEAM is audited in EXACTLY the same way as Parramatta was. As this is the only way to ensure they maintain a unbiased image as the games governing body.

If they lack the resources to do so, they need to bring in outside assistance, to see this done.

Every ... single ... team .... Goes under the microscope, or it is literally impossible for the NRL to dispute that Parramatta wasn't singled out and targeted.

Though I don't see this 'joke' being ended any time soon, I would love to see how they deal with the unraveling issues they find within all the other clubs.

At any rate,

I live in Darwin, and I'm boycotting the game. Gave my ticket up. What is the point of going to watch a game, where even when you win, you've still lost.

I'm also not at all interested in seeing Parramatta line-up against Nathan Peats. All because the NRL selectively lost their ability to 'back-date' when it didn't suit them.

The governing body was supposed to determine a fair and reasonable penalty. Not maim, kill and steal the fire from a contending side.

And in doing so, successfully kill the love that those like me had for the game.

Sam

  • I can answer for the points. We were stripped of all points earned this year at the time of the offence handed down.

Other than this, I can't answer anything.

  • Especially given Seward and Greenburg have a pre existing relationship and where did the leaks occur? Who on the existing boards at the time knowingly handed on information to whom that would sink our club? Ego's and vendetta's aside we have elected people by us the fans who have put the club in this position.

Organise the lynch mob and some pitchforks...

  • G'day Sammy, welcome mate :)

I have to admit, I got a bit excited when I saw your blog title -I thought you were going to outline, EXACTLY, the breaches! Great blog - I enjoyed reading it and agree.

I'm assuming the NRL will outline in detail exactly what the breaches are once the investigation is complete (the club has replied and the NRL have made a judgement based on the breaches and the club's response).

The whole thing, like pretty much everything the NRL gets it's hands on, has been woefully handled. It's extremely depressing and disturbing.

    Anyways, cheers mate - have a good one - - - it's team list Tuesday :)))

  • Mate, unless someone's got a copy of the preliminary breach notice to give you, you'll need to wait until the process is finalised, just like the rest of us, before you see all the nitty gritty details.

Sounds like you're between the first and seconds stage of grief - denial and anger. We've all been there.

Forget about the five and focus on the club's actions - it has conceded that it was over the cap by shedding players to get under the cap. Do you think BA would have done that, after our best start to the season in years, unless absolutely necessary? No bloody way.

  • Sammy we all feel your pain. I'm hopeful that after the final judgement is handed down there will be more detail.

Ultimately, though, our penalty is not so much for breaching the cap. It's for failing to inform the NRL of problems related to the cap.

"vorpius de liporius octo" - the cover up is worse than the crime.

From my understanding, the first tip-offs related to salary cap issues were more than six months before the findings and the NRL gave the club every chance to "come clean" and we refused to. As has been shown from the minutes, we "drew a line in the sand" and just didn't bother to investigate any further. That's despite the fact that we had a professional auditor on our board and we had Schubert on our salary cap compliance committee.

The worse penalty we would have got had we self-reported was four points (which was what the Warriors and Titans got). The NRL and the club would have cleaned up all the issues in the pre-season and that would have been done it.

Instead, we kept daring the NRL to do its worst. We threatened and ultimately took them to court. And in doing so, we really left the NRL with no other option. If you're obstinate to the end, then you can't complain when the hammer comes down hard and it probably would have been harder had Todd Greenberg not been fresh to the job and wanting a PR win.

    • Shouldn't the NRL disclose how they came to "know"? I think the source is more the point of all this, leaving aside the poor choices by the incumbent board of fools. Lets face it, every NRL club does what we have been caught out  doing. But we should be more concerned about the leak/s and whom they are.

Name and shame plus banish them from being anywhere near the club in any administrative role for life.

    • Gawd Phil - that is an unbelievably "P C" response.

I don't think anyone is disputing that the club is technically in the wrong, but you seem to be talking up the NRL and basically saying that they have been the white knights in all of this - only wielding their sword so far when it could have been far far worse (let me guess - play for no points this year).

Can I assume that, in your opinion, we should be greatfull to the NRL for their lenience?. Also, just as some here may be accused of burying their head in the sand over Parra's issues, we should all now ignore the fact that our issues are merely the tip of a very large iceberg involving every club. As the lenient Todd Greenburg said at the presser - every other club is "playing by the rules".

If we "cheated" for 3 years, Melbourne for 4, and the Dogs for 3 - that's 10 years of "cheating", that we know of, out of the last 16. I would say that Greenburgs objective is to punish us swiftly and harshly, have himself seen as staunch and uncompromising, and to quickly forget about the whole thing.

Soory mate, but I read your post as a tad naive and idealistic, no offence  :)

    • There are a number of learned bloggers on 1EE that i tend to gravitate to and PHIL ol mate you are one of them. So I ask, you seem to have your finger on the pulse....is there a chance that once parra get themselves in order and the "infamous five" are banished that the penalty imposed by the NRL will remain contained within 2016 and not spill over into coming years?? I, like all supporters are gutted by what has happened but am more fearful of coming years!!! Is there a chance that we can play on an even playing field to all other clubs re: salary cap???
  • Do you mean like the Commonwealth Bank has achieved by bullying and intimidating whistle-blowers Jeff Morris and Dr Benjamin Koh?

The simple fact is if we were compliant, or even a tiny bit clever, there would be nothing to expose.  Blaming the whistle-blower isn't the answer.

    • This is more about those same person being involved in the club on going. Underhanded dealing occur in every day life. Having an act that deliberately exposes it where otherwise it would not happen, that to me rings alarm bells and needs to be snuffed out.

If you brought this upon your club and then stood for the elections again are you the type to represent us? Makes you just as guilty.
