Ex Bulldogs and South Sydney recruitment manager Mark Hughes, who at the time signed Chris Sandow to a minor $30,000 contract, whilst playing in the lower grades for the Titans, has reportedly replaced Peter Nolan as head of recruitment at the Parramatta Eels. Hughes is known for finding many top league players in his time including league superstar, Sonny Bill Williams and Chris McQueen.

Rangatahi Rugby League Tournament kicks off

For two days, 500 of the best young and talented players will represent their province in Rotorua to see who the best is in the country for 2014.

The Waikato U15's team are the current title holders, and showed their dominance against Bay of Plenty, winning 32-18.

Counties Manukau are the current U17 champions, but were tested in their first game of the competition, beating Bay of Plenty 14-12.

Not only do they want to do well for their province. They also want to do well in front of the many NRL selectors who have come from Australia to scout talent.

Mark Hughes is the current recruitment manager for the Parramatta Eels and has recruited for the Bulldogs and Rabittohs. He's known for finding many top league players in his time including league superstar, Sonny Bill Williams.

The 500 players have until tomorrow evening to make their impression at this competition.

His last gig was at Souths where he identified a number of their stars including Issac Luke, Chris McQueen, Dylan Farrell and David Tyrrell.

    • Well, well done Sharpie, a good coup for the club, we could have done a lot worse than Hughes, and if Gould was after him too he must go ok.

  • * Insert the GodFather tune* "If you don't don't a-come to Parra-a-matta I will leave the head of a donkey...noooo...no, no, a head of 'orse in your bed, Mista Hughes...think-a about it, huh?" playfully slaps mark Hughes on the cheeks
