Unless you are living under a rock you know Brown is off to Newcastle on a 10 year $13 milllion deal starting in 2026. Now since a few days before signing, Brown's form has been abysmal at best. He looks distracted, bereft of ideas and quite frankly hesitent. It has called for many Eels fans to call for his dropping, now with Dylan Walker's signing it has beated harder for his release altogether. Nathan Hindmarsh, former Parramatta captain, mentioned himself he would do so if he was in charge at Parramatta.

So why am i saying not to do any of that yet? Well because he is the best we got. Take form out of it, talent wise he is the best half fit at the club right now. Many blasted Volkman for his sub par performances while are happy for him to come in for Brown? Though form is dreadful and he is not taking hold of games like his talent and experience suggests he should he is still our best chance to win at this rate. Once Moses is back, if his form is still the same then ok i can jump on the bandwagon of dropping him or moving him on (depending on what cost). But for now, with a team desperate for a win, we need as many as we can get, Dylan Brown at 5/8 is still our best chance of winning a game. I stand by that.

Although, if you are to drop Brown the grounds are important to be clear. Many suggest drop him due to signing with Newcastle which should be irrelevant. I had that feeling in 2022 with Mahoney, Niukore etc. but that is not a reason to drop a player, particularly if they are the best at that position. Dropping on form is fair, but how long depends of course on the player replacing him or if he is dropped to reggies or has a week off or two to clear his thoughts. Many, understandable, would cringe at the last suggestion but it is an option.

As for releasing him, i would do it on two conditions. 1) Moses is back and ready to go. 2) We get something worth while in return. Newcastle at this stage do not need Brown with how they are going. However, another poor result or two could have O'Brien pull the trigger on a move to get him here to push for finals. Newcastle's cap is out of whack, with some players on big money coming off like Hastings and Pearce-Paul that is how they have managed to sign Brown on the coin he was offered. Can they afford him now? Well if we take a player on a big wage, like KPP i have been suggesting a while now, with a reported pay packet of $600k could be enough. Could Parra pitch in? Well if it means we get a player like KPP on board for Brown, why not for this year at least. People will say KPP is important for their push to finals and they don't need Brown right now. If they didn't need Brown now what makes them need him next year as they are losing no players in their halves, added to that they signed Brown before KPP, their priorities are elsewhere. Not knocking them for it, but it is the case.

If you can get Brown playing decent enough to when Moses is back, then having him offered to Newcastle now, Ryles can start his push in recruitment by securing a classy back-rower. It is a start. I know Poppa they are not chess pieces, but again, all depends if KPP wants to come to Parramatta, if not then this whole thing is a mute point. Same with Brown who might be content staying at Parramatta for the year to stay close to family and move down with them in the off-season, But if it can be done, Parramatta can use this as an in for some decent recruiting helping us in the future on and off the field.

But though i am open to it later, it should not be done now as wins are more valuable at the moment then anything else. Brown gives us the best chance of winning, despite his form.

Now, if there is a scenario where he asks for a release early, should we accept? Let's say he asks for one Monday morning? I would say no til Moses is back still. Stubborn i know and some will say a Volkman trying his best at 6 is better than Brown kicking stones at 6, but i would still push forward with Brown as he is a better option.

Many here will disagree and that is fine. Many here can have nothing said that can change their mind on he should go and that is fine. But for Ryles, he needs to have the best possible finish to 2025 as possible, we are a better shot of doing that with Brown than anyone else at the club at this stage.

Ok, i will now go and nail my hands and feet to a cross as many of your throw stones at me.

  • I don't want us to send him purely because we will most likley have to pick up most of the freight.  It's easy for the Hindys and Co to throw their two bobs worth in about sending him early , but as I said a few days ago, Newcastle would have to release about 4 or 5 players to squeeze him in.  Unless we pay him to play for them of course , which I highly object to. I rather make him scrub the shitters for 20k per week than pay him to help them.

It's a dumb suggestion to send him early unless there's something worthwhile in it for us. Taking their scraps is not worthwhile.

    • DB is still in our top 17 regardless of his lacklustre performances. I wouldn’t be getting rid of him for any of the Knights discards.

There's also no point in wasting a year of potentially developing or trialling someone else at no.6 either so why not play DB off the bench in various cover roles. IMO that would be the best solution for the team.

    • Play him in the front row. Simples.

  • Maybe support the kid while he's here

    • 😂 ya mean like most have done for the last decade ?

      • How about until  he is actually out of the club people need to grow up

    • I am referring to that for now by saying he is our best and we win more games with him in the team than out.

      • He is the best option he's a great half fans have already labelled him public enemy 1 even though he is still here for now still have a feeling the club isn't innocent in this debacle

        • Trenno , How isn't the club innocent ? They signed the kid in good faith until 2030 or some shit. He asked for a get out clause stating some bullshit about incase of injury that makes zero sense. He then asked for more money and longer terms thinking he'd have the club over a barrel due to his brilliance , and when he didn't get his way he fucked off for 5k a week more money , goes from 20k a week to 25k a week the poor bugger , and now we are supposed to cheer him on whilst he's out there tanking it ?

tell me mate , where has the club played a part in this going sour ?

          • How I look at it The club wanted the clauses taken out of his contract then browns manager asks for compensation which obviously the club declines yet the do it for Moses so yeah more to it I reckon
