I would like to be a fly on the wall looking at our corporate plan.

Planning is and should be a 5 year living document and as such, things such as our development club plan should be alive and it is seriously “not well”. Our minor grades are losing every round and no one is coming through!

When I say a “living document” I mean you adjust it regularly and keeping adding a year on, so its always a 5 year plan. Don't worry there is always an idiot at this stage of the process who says "not another plan" god know's we have plenty of them here (idiots that is) !

Player and recruitment management falls into the same category.

Now I cannot believe that Mark O’Neill would not understand it as it is basic fundamental and so I wonder where is it falling down?

I have a suspicion that BA is not one for planning or for that matter visionary and it is time that the current board start looking at some accountability.

I do not pretend to know the answers, you need to be that “fly” to be aware of the short comings.

It is now the job of the CEO to be addressing the issues at Macro levels as the O’Neill’s and BA sort out the Micro ones…..which is becoming more apparent every day.

This was apparent to me from the times the trials started and the Moses situation “fully arose” ….fixing that will not change the situation in the short term, the damage has been done.
The reality is we have lost the plot and if we are paying 1.25m for any period, it is too much and needs to be addressed in principle in such a way that no player can stand over the board for unentitled reward.

I am Moses biggest fan and Brown too for that matter but we have to be better and more visionary than what we are doing with the examples we are setting, and that includes having the coach’s unproven prodigy enter into any questions of select ability. I believe this whole breakdown of culture failure stems from this and the lack of vision that is becoming endemic in our perceptions of what’s going wrong.

PS Figure out what is happening in the world of TPA’s and find out why we are not an attractive vehicle for people to stay at our club and what are we doing about it.

Let's use Hopgood as an example, lock him in for a contract that is fantastic for him now, gives his kids scholarships for education, a degree for his wife (if she wants it) anything that says to them "this is our future" we know we are going to be fairly compensated and we can start being part of a much bigger family at Parramatta. We can see our future here.

  • Sorry to be cynical Pops but sometimes people put up a very sound proposal to have a plan to qualify for a job and once they have it the next plan is to keep the job for as long as you can. Its all about the quality and honesty of the people you get running the plan. Ok we got into a grand final which was great. We never played like a competitive players in the grand final and disappointed many. Very questionable things happening around how BA managed player opportunities which were not addressed by the club hierarchy. I am not sure how our nest is going in developing future players.

Does anyone feel really involved and envigorated by a healthy club culture?

    • Sounds like you have given up Taddy....your cynicism is more than justified so no criticism from me.

I am trying to infer something constructive needs to be done and that one solution is regular communucation and even a sitdown where members can ask questions such as planning, short and long term.....those questions needs to go into a pool and pick out the best 10.....could they be honest enough to do that.....is a question in itself.

      • " Constructive" Poppa  good business models need a combination of doers, and creative thinkers. Both come from different worlds. The doers usually hire other doers who are like themselves and that often excludes esoteric creative thinkers. You need managers that understand that good management has a variety of skills in a business.( There is something to be said about an education system which is broadly based eg Batchelor of Arts degrees which cover a big variety of knowledge backgrounds.History, Anthropology, Psychology, Economics, etc. If you have that mix you have an open base of inputs. Having business based management restricts your ability in having a progressive business/ sports culture.

That's where constructive systems are more potent. Getting the management personnel/ consultancy right.

  • It would seem Parra's main plan is to change it's public perception. We were known as a loosely-run battling club that pays overs to attract and retain quality players.

For this to work, everyone in the club need to be on the same page. The administration, coaches and players all need to understand that a strong club projects itself as a unified team and as an attractive environment. The Roosters and to a lesser extent, the Panthers are probably the best at this right now.

The Gutherson and now Moses contract negotiations are in direct contradiction with what the club are trying to acheive. It clearly displays these players don't understand, or don't care, what the desired group objective is.

The actions of the club have also contradicted the image it's trying to project. Player options attached to contracts (which were taken to unheard of levels with Dylan's recent contract) do nothing to change the view that we need to go to extaordinary lengths to get the deal done.

It's all good having a plan but until everyone's on board, it won't stick.

    • You have identified a major area Acme....the public perception and how do you interpret it, i.e. the public just observing us, the public in the geographical area and/or the fans that drive that public perception.

I said to my wife yesterday after the Dolphins game.....how many people that don't follow a football team at all are now interested in the Dolphins, especially the ones that live in the area and then you can go Brisbane wide to anyone that doesn't like the Bronco's,.......my guess people anywhere in Australia with some interest in Rugby League are watching them now.

Too often sweeping motherhood statements cover the public perception, I think we are all pretty cynical to use Tad's words in that event.....maybe being honest with our shortfalls and some clean communication could improve the perceptions of Eels.

  • The plan we working wonderful until the club let go of reed and ipap

    • 👏👏👏👏

    • That;s the micro Jack and falls back to the GM Football and Coach.

AS far as I know our two report directly to the CEO, I noticed with Broncos that Ikin as GM Footie reports to Walters, dont think I would want to report to Walters or BA for that matter, I suspect O'Neill likes to keep the peace, BUT BA's autonomy must be thinning out somewhat,,,,,if its not then there is a weakness in the PLAN.

      • The eels have messed up big time letting reed go. Is it that hard to not let Moses, gutho and reed all just be joint captains. Gave reed 700-750 what ever he wanted and we stays in the premiership hunt. But no now we are stuck with Hodgson who's struggling to push out 80 min

  • I hope the powers that be haveva plan or at least are looking into it.

I think our recent good years may of papered over some cracks and if this year goes the way I expect those cracks will be come so obvious that something needs to be done.
