      • Exactly

      • The NRL worked out the eels doing great doesn't add any value, we are already one of the most watched teams and our fans are die hard loyal, on the flip side there is no harm to their brand if the eels do bad as we have one of if not the most loyal fan bases and keep on watching regardless.

        • You've got to wonder how sustainable that is. When you get to a stage where no fans remember winning a grand final, will Parra still have such a big fan base? In any event, Parra knows that they must be successful despite what the NRL throws at us along the way.

        • There was an article a year or two ago which ranked supporter-bases for teams and the Eels did well for memberships, and for average crowd attendances. That kind of suggests, as JC hints at, that the Eels enjoy a loyal base.

But the Eels ranked poorly if ranked by crowd attendance as a percentage of the region's population, and the Eels were only a mid-tier ranked for player participation, suggesting continually not doing well might be harming the growth of that loyal base?

          • Daz, I don't think our supporter base will die off as some predict, or the doomsters might forsee. It's generational deep over 50 years or so.

But over the next few decades as today's kids mature, the Panthers will probably have the largest supporter base in Sydney at least; even if they are where we are now blessed with Constant Cyncial Chicken Little Armies in force.

Mind you, I'll still support the Eels. Perhaps, from the heavens (or swampy basements of the afterlife). Probably chuckling: We've seen this movie before.

            • The data says the Eels' supporter base is one of the strongest in the NRL, HOE. But there are some interesting parts of that data where the Eels are ranked quite low. There might be a few explanations for why. But a contrast between die hards and bandwagon supporters is very common. Passionate diehards probably won't go anywhere, success or not. Yet bandwagoneers. I would be surprised if there was NOT an inherent spectrum to badwagoneers, and continued lack of success might demobilize some of them?

I guess the question that speculation ultimately poses is to what degree does a high count of loyal fanatics shape the overall perception of a healthy supporter base, masking, possibly, an equally 'stable' but relatively demobilized set of bandwagoneers?

            • Hoe, I heard those smelly swampy basements were previously exclusive, Northern Italian inspired,  tranquil high stakes gaming lounges before Mark O’Neill took over as Executive General Manager

"Depends on his physical development. Currently struggles in contact in defence and cannot bend the line due to his physical abilities. If he gains more leg speed and power he will be an NRL 13."
