      • Why is it big commercially? surely we make more $ from a home game. Where does the money come from. Or do the gambling interests that support this whole Vegas boondoggle just cut us a participation cheque for  helping with their marketing.

Call it hype all you want but it's a club statement nontheless & I will absolutely hold it against Jim. It's poor form and an epic failure to read the room.

        • Against the Titans, we'd lose money on a home game at CommBank. We get a poor TV timeslot and small crowds because no one cares about the Titans.

There are a collection of commercial benefits:

          • Vegas merchandising range
          • Exclusive ticket sales
          • Increase in gate sales for home sides in Vegas. We'd go from a financial loss to a six figure profit on this game.
          • Increase in sponsorship and opportunities for commercial partners (Think Vegas-specific commercial packages and sponsorships)
          • At least we'll have a chance to win the game. Imagine if it was against Storm, again.

    • Wow...that is a seriously tone-deaf statement thaat lands on every fan like a slap in the face. I'm embarrassed for him & for us. Is he saying that things are only going to get worse so let's just do this now? Or does he really believe his own glib marketing. Believing you're own press releases is a basic-bitch delusion but easy to do when you have no answers.

He would have been way better off saying nothing...he looks like a fool who just punched himself in the nuts for no reason

      • Like, all he had to say was "I am excited to annouce that our season opener will be in Vegas. Yay. Woo-hoo"

        I hope he just posted the offensive swill he was handed by t̶h̶e̶ c̶r̶a̶y̶o̶n̶ k̶i̶d̶s̶ f̶r̶o̶m̶ t̶h̶e̶ C̶o̶l̶o̶u̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ I̶n̶ d̶e̶p̶t̶ Marketing.

The fact he put his name to it is a problem. He should know better.

      • Randy, look at the position he's in as the Club CEO and what he has to do to hype the game partnering with the NRL...

Do you honestly expect him to say anything less?

  • Heard LB and pops will be leading the group to vegas

  •  80th anniversary year ...41st anniversary of our last win ...21st anniversary of our last minor premiership ...9th anniversary of our last spoon ...5th anniversary of our last almost win.

Yeah, there is no better time.

  • Sadly, with this economic climate I can't see a big turnout of either Eels or Titans fans. Both bases have been starved of any success recently, so spending $5-10k to watch a game of footy is just not on the priority list. At least it will be an even match up for the fans that do travel.

I'll be watching it from home,. I've been to Vegas a few times now, and there's nothing really worth heading to the US for at the moment. I'd rather spend my earned biscuits elswhere.
