The Parramatta Eels have upped the ante in a last ditch bid to retain gun hooker Reed Mahoney but there is a view Canterbury-Bankstown have blown them out of the water.

The Eels initially low-balled Mahoney with a two-year extension worth around $900,000 while the Bulldogs went straight into serious negotiations with a four-year $2.4 million deal.

Parramatta’s under-pressure Roster Management Committee has since sharpened their pencil with a three-year offer close to $1.5 million but arch rivals Canterbury-Bankstown remain steadfast Mahoney is the long-term no.9 the Bulldogs want.

"Of course it is Civil, but depending what has transpired it is possible that new matters come to light that change that. We are going hard at this. Who knows where it ends?"

"To my thinking, simply adhering to your contract is a restraint of trade. That's sort of the idea. By releasing him we afforded him more freedom than what he had before, the only proviso being he couldn't join one of our competitors."

So go from 2 years 450K to up it to 3 years 1.5mil
Basically 50K more a year? right well done guys
if they go with 1.8 mil 600K i think that is fair and enough.
