The Parramatta Eels are on the brink of another halves coup, with former Kiwis international Ben Roberts expected to sign a two-year deal, as rumoured earlier this week on Zero Tackle.

Having already secured Chris Sandow as their marquee signing for next season, the Eels are poised to further bolster their playmaking options by beating the Cronulla Sharks to the Bulldogs five-eighth’s signature.

Several other clubs – including the Gold Coast Titans and Sydney Roosters – had expressed interest in Roberts, who has been stuck behind off-season recruits Kris Keating and Trent Hodkinson at Canterbury this season. While the Eels were prepared to consider an immediate transfer, Canterbury were keen to have Roberts as insurance for injuries this year.

The Eels deal is expected to be finalised when Roberts and his management team sort through the final details at a meeting tentatively booked for Tuesday.

  • So is Roberts injury free?
I am not up to speed on his stats or form but surely Roberts offers more in attack then KK?
Is it KK has better defence? Or is it due to Hodgo and KK playing junior footy together?
IMO, Roberts would be a better option at 6?
  • Roberts fit and out of favour... I reckon he would make a handy centre... just a hunch anyway.

HKF replied to Hector's discussion Young Joash papa extends
"The chances of him being our 6 next year are very low, if he was a serious consideration he would be playing 6 now with dylan at centre. I'll be very surprised if he is our starting 6 next season unless he gets a lot more time there this season. "
