Eels interested in Barnett

Parramatta are interested in Mitch Barnett. Now at 33 in 2027 and coming off ACL, good idea? Having Paulo and De Belin being 34 and 36 respectively is it good to have that much age?

Ryles wants a Paulo replacement that can lead the forwards, Barnett is a year younger.31093138864?profile=RESIZE_710x

  • this is an absolute no brainer. I believe we will make it happen.
Big fan and always have been

  • If Both Paulo and De Belin leaves in 2027, then I'd have Barnett as an old head part of the rotation. No problem.

Assuming the likes of Doorey/Guymer/Tuivati continue their development and take over the leadership of the pack. Or we sign another big name prop in their prime.

  • He'd be great.

  • Big yes. Sign him for 27 and 28. Even throw in a JAC/JDB clause. If you're playing well we will keep you for 29.

Let JDB go after this year unless he performs and is happy to be our ressie captain next year and steer the youngest around.

Paulo give him on more year in 27 and he can come off the bench. That way in 28 we still have an experienced leader in Barnett. He is a bit younger and hasn't played as many games as Paulo and JDB. Less wear and tear on his body.

    • You really think Barnett would accept a CO? I mean he has plenty of suitors and is an Origin forward, he wont accept a CO from us.

      • He might if the money was right. If the initial year was big and the CO year even bigger, why wouldn't he? As you say, he's still in demand. If we didn't activate the CO, it's likely he would have other offers.

  • SMH is reporting that the Warriors are demanding a player swap as compensation for releasing Mitch Barnett early.

Wonder where that idea came from 🤔

    • Would Lomax like to travel to Auckland?

    • They have already released him. How can they? Or have they put the same clause in as Lomax. Bit rude of the Warriors as he is coming home for a sick child. Not trying to fill his pockets.

      • I think it's for 2027 onwards.
