Eels haven't missed out - Mannah

Parramatta club captain Tim Mannah says no man is bigger than the Eels - even his superstar best mate Jarryd Hayne.Mannah had lunch with Hayne on Monday and admits his code-hopping former teammate asked him when the Eels were going to make an offer.AdvertisementMannah, though, says while it may be disappointing for fans that Hayne won't be returning to Parramatta any time soon, the embattled Eels are intent on building a club and team "that's sustainable for the future" rather than splashing out for one player."Gold Coast have offered him a very big sum and one thing we've learnt at the club is one player isn't bigger than the club," Mannah said after Hayne's announcement on Wednesday that he was joining rival NRL club the Titans.According to Bevan Paul, the club's interim CEO, the club had made Hayne a counter-offer. In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, he said: "The Parramatta Eels did communicate an offer to Jarryd Hayne's management in the past 48 hours.New adventure: Jarryd Hayne at the announcement with new coach Neil Henry.New adventure: Jarryd Hayne at the announcement with new coach Neil Henry. He's a grown man and he's got to look after himself."At the same time, Parra, we want to look after ourselves as well."It would have been nice to have him at Parra but he's looked after himself and it's a good chance for the club to kind of take a step back, look at what position we're in now."We've got a bit of space to work with and a bit of money to spend and we can go ahead and build a team we want to build."Mannah said he understood Hayne's urgency to seal a deal."He's got a chance to play some finals footy this year," he said."And I guess if you wanted to have a crack at that, you'd have to get it done pretty quick."

  • I'm glad Timmy thinks that way as he is getting on and younger prospects have caught up. Should be getting tap on shoulder soon if we are moving forward and no one player is bigger than the club.
  • Great leadership from Tim
  • Why would Hayne be asking Mannah what's happening with his contract?
  • Tim you can go to the Titans as well. What about Parra releasing him a year from end of his contract to pursue his NFL dream. Also we were queried about monies we gave him to go to America. Tim Jarryd will now be DESPISED even more than Jamie Liar who went to Manly all those years ago.

  • Piss off Tim, I've always backed you mate but if you want start to defend you're bible bashing, back stabbing, money driven, two faced, lying mate then go with him.

Call it as it is, he took the money and pissed on us again, just f the f up on this topic because nothing other than the fact that your mate is a lying piece of disloyal crap who only thinks of himself.

The club granted this turd a release from his contract to pursue his dream, we continued to support him, endorse him, financially assist him and what do we get in return? A dump of steaming hot pile of Hayne feces.

I never thought I could despise a player more than I did Lyon, well now I have a clear winner, so clear that my hatred of Lyon has suddenly vanished.

I'm glad he signed with Titans, I hope the 3678 Titans fans float his boat. F U Hayne, Karma is a bitch, you've just made the worst personal decision of your life.

You think you can turn a one club town city into you're bitch? Think again, fact is, the Titans went broke because the Gold Coast just don't give a crap about Rugby League and they won't a crap about you.

    • Joseph I think that u have pretty well expressed how a lot of B&G fans currently feel. U needn't be so reserved, subtle or considerate in your comments though, perhaps u should be a little more direct & to the point. No need to beat around the bush as they say.

  • Well here's one..pick your game up .
  • When Tim talks we all listen.

  • But Mannah has confirmed he asked him the question.

There would be more analysis in this blog of HOE's than has occurred by the Board we have the whole time they've been there.

As for his defence, he is no worse than…"

LB replied to LB's discussion Tevita Taumoepenu now at South Sydney
"I understood the appeal of Taumoepenu who was 21 at the time of the deal i believe. He was a workhorse Prop, had some form in NSW Cup and wanted to develop him further. But there is no need to give him a top 30 deal for 2024.
But on top of that, we…"
