Eels getting stitched up

Just listened to the RL guru poddy, he mentions how nrl may have stitched parra up, and suprised no one is talking about how in round 3, 4 and 5 we play Manly, Panthers and Roosters. And it's not the fact we're playing them but that we are playing those teams straight after they have their bye.

Does anyone else think this maybe a disadvantage?

  • Well it means we don't fire off early, might be better getting a few losses early, having the attention off us as we cruise under the radar.

Rather that than going 110% and getting 2/3 wins but then have a dreadful 8 weeks and crawl into the 8.

Of course I want us to win every game, but we've shown we can be a team that fires off too early.

  • On the positive we get our bye rounds mid to late season including a week off before the finals ..

  • Historically teams struggle after a bye, it could work in our favour.

  •

The bye helps the teams that play a physical power game. Teams that play expansive football benefit from playing regularly. Unfortunately, most teams play more conservative football early in the season and become more expansive later in the year. I think the game before you have a bye is crucial. A bad loss before the bye is terrible.

  • Look at the positive. If we come anywhere from 5-8 that last round bye is gonna be a massive bonus.

    •

The last round bye can also be a disadvantage. If the Eels are equal with 1 or 2 other teams coming into the final round with the Eels having a slightly better for and against,  those other teams will know exactly how many points they need to win by to go past the Eels.  It's possible that the Eels 6th or 7th going into the final round and get 2 points for the bye and drop out of the 8 when the last round is completed.

      • Thanks Slippery for putting my mind at complete rest Lol

      • So ur saying to be safe we need to finish 4/5? Lol

  • Biggest disadvantage is that any of their players nursing niggling injures will likley be fit. Good chance we will be playing each of them at their fully fit levels.

  • Outside of our control , get on with it and win anyway.
