EAGLES, EELS EYE WOODS

Manly and Parramatta have made a play for prop Aaron Woods after he was told by incoming Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon he isn’t wanted for next season.

The Sea Eagles and Eels have both spoken to Woods this past week as they seek to bolster their respective forward packs for 2022. Fitzgibbon had a face-to-face meeting with Woods to let him know the Sharks were “moving in a different direction” next year.

Woods, who is in the final year of a three-year deal worth $600,000 annually, is understood to have offered to stay at Cronulla for just $180,000 next year, but Fitzgibbon was clear there was no space for him.

Woods, 30, can expect to earn more than $200,000 wherever he lands next; a big pay-cut from where he’s at but still enough to keep him in Australia and attempt to reignite his career under a new coach.

  • What if the eels swapped Gutherson and Dylan Brown?

We'd get speed from the back, someone whose good at defending 1 on 1, and gutho would get his hands on the ball more often.

Could unleash a different dimension to our attack..

    • That's actually not a bad idea. Worth a try at least.

Would mean that Gutho would have a lot more defensive work to do but he certainly has the motor for it.

    • In the modern game, fullback and five-eight are very similar in attack. Defensively, Gutho is a fullback and D Brown is a five-eight

  • Gutho's motor is needed at fullback not five eight.
Dylans defence is needed at five eight

  • Where does it mention that BA has spoken to Woods?  Way I am reading this is a simple ploy by his manager to try and land Woods at a club that will be happy to pay overs, also there is a bit in another RL column that simply says he's an unfavoured player linked to 2 NSW clubs, Who has linked him to those clubs?  Only way he would get a run and do anything at the eels is to sign as a development player.

If the eels sign Woods they will get a dead set Log that has been burnt out.

  • Hell friggin No. As Toovey would say - there's got to be an investigation into this....

  • Woods is a plodder at best these days and the Eels should be looking to give our best young up and coming Props a shot.

Woods is not what the Eels need.

  • Lodge is avail

"Well you can just go horses for courses. Pick the bench that you think is best equipped to take on the opponent for that week. We have 30 players, only 17 get on the field so we should be fine to rotate the bench when we need to."

"Fake, Excellent point on Joash & juniors. He's got Parra passion, the right attitude & energy. I do hope he stays on, even if his utility value is both a blessing & a curse."
