Eels Target Milford

The Parramatta Eels have discussed throwing unwanted Brisbane Broncos playmaker Anthony Milford a lifeline for the remainder of this year.

The Eels view Milford as the perfect no.14 leading into the finals with the club’s football department making an approach to the out-of-favour Brisbane five-eighth.

Under NRL rules all 16 clubs still have until August 1 to finalise their top 30 rosters so if Milford is going to make the move the deal will need to get done within the next fortnight.

The Eels are currently well-stocked in terms of playmakers but there’s a view at the club Milford could add an X-factor leading into the finals.

Parramatta general manager of football Mark O’Neill is believed to be the one driving the Milford approach from a blue and gold point of view.

‘Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town’ premieres on Fox League, FOX8 and Kayo on Monday, July 19 at 7.30pm.

The Broncos have told Milford the club will be moving on next year as coach Kevin Walters and head of football Ben Ikin set about overhauling the Red Hill roster.

Fox Sports has been told the Eels management has made an inquiry about Milford in the last seven days with Parramatta mindful they will need to get the deal done ASAP.

Milford could provide the Eels with tremendous depth in the halves leading into the finals in addition to Mitchell Moses, Dylan Brown and Jake Arthur.

South Sydney is another club looking at signing Milford but any Bunnies deal would only be for 2022 and beyond.

Milford still enjoys a good rapport with incoming South Sydney head coach Jason Demetriou from the their time together at the Brisbane Broncos.

But any Bunnies deal is most likely to hinge on the decision of Queensland State of Origin centre Dane Gagai and his future at Redfern.

      • Definitely worth a chance at the right price.

  • Milford at Canberra was a brilliant player and should have won the MOM in the GF loss to Cowboys.

Take him out of a shit club with shit standards and put him in a strong club with higher standards and culture and he could pay dividends

Woukd cost bugger all as 75% of the contract period this year would be over..... if we bring him in who knows coukd be a master stroke with low risk

  • Say whaaaaat, don't know what to think about this,  he could be an x factor but he could also be an absolute flop. BA has a history of turning players around,  he might be what Milford needs.

  • Give it a go, what have you got to lose?

    • Yeah, very little risk for a guy who can play 5 positions and is still only 28
