Eels exit race for Sandon Smith

Parramatta have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Sydney Five-Eighth Sandon Smith. The decision is based on the club placing their attention to other options, mainly in house optoins including Joash Papali'i.

Now i do believe they are looking at Papali'i and even in future Talataina, although i also wonder if there is a target that Ryles is looking at that he knows or might know is available that is not known as available if that makes sense. I don't know, the club is very good at keeping information in terms of recruitment sown shut. Anasta did let slip slightly of a target Ryles could be interested in but stopped before he said the actual name. I would put money, not a lot, on us still signing a 6.

  • Disappointed if true. Sandon Smith is quality and extremely versatile. He'd be a positive replacement for Brown. Without that we're trying to make up ground after losing Brown.

    • 100%

Unless there's something big happening behind the scenes re #6, this is typical Parra.

The cheap skates of the NRL and we dont have another club in the NRL that comes close. I thought BA was a tight arse but Ryles is making him look like a big spender

  • One of these articles also said DH DaSilva on Newcastles radar, and they are favourites; so that is done! :)

    • So a club is deemed favourite and it means they are signed? Many here don't believe we have Da Silva despite being favourites. Newcastle were seen as favourites with KPP swap but that ain't happening.

  • Or maybe there are no targets and they are playing 5D chess with the fans.

Fuck we need a statement signing and fast

    • Starting to think Iongi is the statement signing, How much is he going to cost to lock up long term because right now he's playing like a top 5-6 fullback in the comp

      • I would not say top 5-6 yet, but he shows gimpses, even up to top 3. Give him another pre-season and he flies. Money will be tucked away to extend him.

        • Just on form alone he's easily outplaying other fullbacks who are on enormous money. Guys like Ponga turbo seem to be falling off and are on 1.3 mill

          • No he's not Storm fullback, Roosters fullback, Hammer, Edwards, all well ahead of him.

Look he is good and is promising, he's not breaking records.....stop reading the press Eli and make some opinions of your own!

      • If he earns the Dally m rookie of the year then yeah you probaly consider locking him up for years.
