The NRL has been dragged into the Zac Lomax legal stoush after Parramatta issued an urgent subpoena to obtain documents relating to head office’s involvement in the matter.

The Eels enjoyed a mini victory ahead of next week’s hearing by ensuring Melbourne chairman Matt Tripp has to testify in person, rather via video link. Now lawyers acting for the blue and golds have requested the NRL to hand over all information relating to its involvement in the Lomax saga.

Parramatta powerbrokers privately believe the NRL has sided with Melbourne in the matter.

Parties are normally given two weeks to comply with subpoena requests, but the NRL will be required to provide materials to the court by Friday. There is then expected to be legal argument on Monday as to whether they are admissible at the hearing.

In explosive documents tendered to the Supreme Court, it was revealed Storm chief executive Justin Rodski allegedly sent a text message to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo stating: “Hi Andrew, not getting anywhere at this point, can you apply the blow torch on parramatta [sic] to get this done.”

According to a document tendered to the court by the Eels: “This message was an attempt to use the NRL to place pressure on the Parramatta Eels to resolve the matter on terms acceptable to the Melbourne Storm.

“During negotiations, this communication was not disclosed by the Melbourne Storm to the Parramatta Eels. It is not known whether any other communications have occurred between the NRL and the Melbourne Storm concerning the placing of pressure or otherwise on the Parramatta Eels to accept offers made by the Melbourne Storm.”

        • Mutts, well said. I wouldn't be surprised if that's being discussed behind closed doors. It's ironic we'd be more okay with Lomax as a Warrior than a Storm. The little devil in all of us, perhaps. Imagine if he sought another release?

          • For mine it's just the player swap. Like the Warriors we want a player in exchange. Given both clubs want a player swap, on paper at least this makes a lot of sense.

            • Mutt, if this happens, it is manna from heaven for the Eels and we can feel that the footy gods are somewhat smiling on us.

        • Perfecto!
If we win I don't see how the storm actually acquires Lomax for this season, as they have already knocked our three player options back and (believe read somewhere) that they don't want to switch either.
So getting what we want from them is effectively no deal ie if our approval is regarded as mandatory valid part of release contract.

like you said Muttman Warriors want what we want hopefully they would have a spot for lomax?

          Delicious...icing meet cake :)

        • Right on. If Lomax doesn't want it, then he can sit on his arse until 2028.

  • My popcorn is always ready. Love how Arthur Moses is bringing it on both the Storms and NRL. You can feel that he is not only acting as a solicitor but also as a loyal/ fanatic Eels fan.

Hope everything is brought out in the open all in our favour.

    Go PARRA!

  • Hope the sitting judge sees it for what it is, money hungry Lomax. He gambled with his career choice and lost, so wear the consequences

Lets be fair we all know but how are they supposed to?"
