    • I think its pretty obvious there was a culture problem,  some of us have been pointing that out for years, also, most of these players were overpaid for what they have produced over the last two seasons.

The only way to change a culture is to remove the old one. The older experienced players are the ones that shape the younger inexperienced ones.

We were in a much larger hole than any of us thought, there is no quick fix to our problems if you want to fix them long term.

People should prepare themselves for another season of struggle after this one because of the way contracts are done these days you have to recruit for 2 seasons ahead not next season as practically all good players that are looking to change clubs have signed contracts starting next season.

After November 1 we will be able to negotiate with players for 2027, unfortunately the timing for us is bad as we will be competing with the Perth bears. For next season we are going to have to settle for what ever half decent players we can get.

      • Honestly the only culture problem I saw with the players that were let go is that they were all players who played for BA more than the Eels.

RCG was one of our best. Gutho never put in less than 200%.

And whilst I agree that sacking a coach comes with its challenges, and that given Ryles inherited these challenges he probably knew what he had to do (sack the culture leaders so he could install his own)...it still feels like a problem that Ryles shouldn't have been left to solve on his own.

I strongly believe that our R&R let us down significantly more than BA and his coaching did. BA had his run and it was time to move on - but the headaches that Ryles now has to take several seasons to deal with were predominantly caused by people who are still here causing the same issues (MON I'm looking at you).

And to your point HKF we're now fighting for talent at the worst possible time when a new club is entering the competition.

I like what Ryles is doing. We need to move on from MON if we want to stop the ongoing failure.

        • You never noticed the culture of turning up against bottom 4 teams and consistently losing to them?, come on. Gutho was a laid back larrikin,  not what you want from a captain.

          • The players and the coach just ran out of gas in the end.

Even during there most successful years 19-22 they had these atrocious lulls in form during a season but continually bounced back.

23-24 when this injury and silly suspension bug hit us and is still effecting us to this day and the fact that the last coach's voice just got tiring is the straw that broke the camels back.

Im with Captain here I'd suggest that we've had zero alignment through the years and our R & R plan with regards to garnering talent left and still leaves a lot to be desired. We continue to talk about getting better players this of course is the aim but shouldn't we in the same breath as fans and as a club be looking for better people above that also.

What I'm seeing now is the people making these decisions aren't accountable for these poor decisions and the face of it JR now will wear the brunt of it while the rest hide behind there positions or power. We aren't aligned and we aren't collaborative when these decisions go wrong,For me that's the issue within our club lack of accountability.

    • Also adding to my reply, we should have more confidence in ryles's recruitment.  Look at what he has added so far, Longi, Walker, Williams,  Hawkins, Koatoga, Samrani, Papalii and addo-carr have all had positive impacts on this team.

      • The issue is how does this recruitment stack up what's around you and what's above you.

I'd suggest out of what's been mentioned there how many are legit starters in a top side around the nrl.You take Katonga Samarani and Papalli they were all happily let go bu the dogs and weren't good enough to start or be consistent top 17 players.

Iongi had mission impossible at Riff so was moved he's probably the only one that could crack a starting side consistently.

Walker and Williams were bench and spot players.

JaC he's a walk up starter where ever he's been.

Hawkins is a depth 7 at best we know what he is.

The picture I'm getting at Parra now is outside of Moses Lomax and DB talent wise we are well behind the top sides in the comp and our position backs this up.We can be competitive on our day but we have a long hill to climb.

At some point we need to add leadership experience and just elite talent ideally through our pathways because we'll struggle to attract it outside our bubble.

        • Out of what was available to us he has done well.

          • While it may look well inside our wall it's really to early to say how he's done well as we are still running nie on the bottom of the comp.Next yesr wil give us a better picture of how he's recruited.

    • The equation Cappy, the equation.
