Well to be fair though, if you were offered either a 1 year deal or 3 year deal, which are you taking? Winning comps doesn't matter for him now he was won 2, so now it is playing as long as he can.
So if we only offered 1-2 years, we did the right thing not going 3. But still went for him which is weird to me still. MON went hard for the Wests Tigers HOF role in 2023, they still have an interim, i suggest he goes for it he is wasting his time at Parra where his skills and intelligence would be must suited to the Wests Tigers.
Very true. Not sure how hard he went but when they announced their interim GM it was mentioned in an article MON lobbied for the role. Their loss, they don't know what they are missing with MON, we are lucky to have him but i feel his potential cannot be reached at Parra, he must go elsewhere to win comps that he is destined to do.
I was thinking about Capewell too. It's a good comparison. If we signed Capewell plenty here would hate it but he's a quality player. He's still playing Origin. I get that people are frustrated and want to sign the next 4 x SBW's but lifting the floor is truly what it's about for us right now. Jack williams was a perfect example of that. If we had a few more of these we could get some stability in the squad for once. Bring it on.
Yep we just need that core of experience inside the top 30 and just throw the pathways juniors at the squad.
If we manage some success in the next 2 years hopefully the stench Parra holds at the moment around recruiting top tier talent lessens then we may see some success.
We are in the infancy of what JR is trying to put together now.
If I were the club I'd be identifying the best talent in the 17-21 age group and poaching it throwing financial rewards at it to get this talent in-house.
Id support signing Gardner, but 3 years isn't on. 1 or 2 years maximum. Clubs should reserve signing players for 3 years and above unless they are absolute quality standard, or are exceptional young talent as Iongi is.
"All that is fine, no need to get excited, Garner is an option and the equation stands. Obviously if someone is better you go with the better one. Apart from the subjectivity, going after a player /s is not your problem.
You can shout about it after…"

If he did go hard for the role in 2023 and they preferred to stick with an interim HOF, that speaks volumes, doesn't it?

The EBay Eels.
The Temu Eels 🤣
It's a lift the floor not ceiling exercise if they sign Garner.
The flaw of this squad is lateral agility and inexperience i guess if they do get Garner over the line it's a win I guess.
For me he's a poor man's Luke Capewell type of signing.

3 years is just ridiculous
