Eels Break a 79 year old Record.

The Parramatta Eels have today broken a 79 year old record. Never before have the Eels conceded this many points in the first 6 rounds of any football season, ever. Having conceded 226 points in the first few weeks of the competition places this team as the worst of the worst. With the Eels having won 14 wooden spoons since 1947, those 14 teams were still a better defensive team then the 2026 Eels. Even if we go back to 1954 where the Eels won only 1 game that entire year, that team was still better defensively then this team. That team had only let in 108 points after 6 rounds.

Between 1956 and 1961 the Eels won 6 consecutive wooden spoons and all these 6 teams were still better defensively then the 2026 Eels after 6 rounds.

Lets put this in perspective the 1982 Eels team only conceded 242 points all year, the 1963 team only conceded 165 points all year. There are several other teams that meet this criteria as well but you get my point

This team must confront some realities, this coaching staff must try something different, this Recruitment strategy is simply not working. Is it time for fans to start getting angry or at the very least disgusted in what is being portrayed as a competent football team. When does the acceptance of mediocrity boarding on straight out laziness get thrown out by fans and questioned.

Players like Penisni, Papalii, Kelly, Paulo, De Belin, Simonsson, Pezet are spoken about as if they are first graders. On what we are seeing this year in a record breaking Eels Team as the worst defensive team ever, history suggests otherwise.

Where does it stop, when do more fans stop bury their heads suggesting that certain players are okay, that R@R are doing a good job. When is it time to demand more. Personally i'm a bit sick and tired of inept mediocrity at best. I'm actually feeling disgusted with my team, with my club today, we can throw in that today against the Titans is our worst ever loss at combank stadium, another record broken, i'm sure there are going to be many more records broken this year by our 2026 team, i'm afraid to think about that.

Have we been tricked by our club into thinking they have been doing a great job, when facts are starting to show otherwise. How far off the pace are we.

  • FAAARRRKKK!!!

  • Well all applause needs to go coach Ryles and Brown and Mitch Moses as the inspiring captain and of course the fitness and wellness coach who has the players in top shape and of course the front office who has made this record breaking performance possible. Well done Parra

  • Besides JAC falling in our lap, we haven't bought a decent first grade player that was wanted by other clubs in years!!

  • Hear hear Bluey! It's utterly embarrassing. No need to wait for the end of the season, this needs some answers and accountability now.

BA was sacked for much less than this. We do not have an NRL standard top 30 squad and very well paid people have allowed this to happen on their watch.

We need accountability and we need change.

  • Its a St George old boys coaching staff...tbh what did we expect ........steeped in losers metality and approach.....

    • Not sure Wisemantel and Moa played for St George but agree we really need a revamp somewhere in the set up.

  • Does that take into account that trys were 3 points back then?

  • We are hoping to set an almost unbeatable record of greater than 1000 points against this year.

Maybe next year we'll try for the enviable 1000 points differential record.

  • Maybe Ryles wants to get the sack so he can coach the Dragons. I'm OK with that

  • I agree with everything you've said. But nothing will change. We're at the mercy of auditing accountants and bankers. They'll have a meeting and issue a memo amongst themselves. Meanwhile we'll get an email this week announcing the extension of the reserve grade physiotherapist. Eventually they'll blame Ryles.
