Dylan Brown

Definitely played well today if he plays like that every week. Living up to the hype

    • Halves do age very well. Benji was a livewire then towards the end of his career became that Walker type role for Souths, he was an organiser and very creative in picking teams a part.

Though will he have the players around him at Newcastle? With his and Ponga's salary, loss of Thompson in the middle and ageing middle with Frizell, an ok Hooker in Crossland and losing KPP on one edge, there is not a lot there in the forwards to work with except for Lucas who is a weapon.

    • If it due to the people around him then why does Moses make such a difference to our team ? Do people only do their jobs when Moses plays ?  Or is it because Dylan needs to be in a star team to be affective ?  There's nothing wrong with the latter , you just can't expect to be paid top dollar..

      • He doesn't did you see the previous year when He came back we didnt win with Moses.

You watch any of these good halves for them to win people around them need to do there jobs that's footy 101.

Heres one go back 5 years ago and have a look how great Moses was when he was DBs age 😂 go on and tell me why Moses wasn't winning games back then.

        • It’d be foolish to argue the Eels don’t perform miles better with Moses than without.

It just shows the value of having that on-field general. Someone with a strong kicking game who lifts confidence & belief.

It's also why Dylan doesn’t come close to cutting the mustard in comparison, or in terms of cap value.

If Dylan works hard, he might develop that side of his game over the next four or five years. I’m not confident but who knows. Even he’s admitted he’s not a seven, and that’s half the battle lost right there.

Knights will be an interesting watch. The injury gods need to help them too. Personally, if Dylan reaches his potential at the Knights, I’d be stoked for him. He’s given us many good years of service, and I honestly wish him all the best.

          • My points always been a wait and see exercise with DB much like Moses was earlier in his career. There very similar at the given points in there careers age wise.Much like Moses Brown will have to grow into the role of being that type of half.I mean how long did it take Moses 5-6 seasons to become what he is today.

Brown was never handed the keys here.It takes off seasons to be that guy and to be truely in control of a side.He has traits to be that guy but he's just not that guy at this given time in his career.

            • He doesn't have the temperament to do what Moses or Cleary does.  He is clearly a player off the cuff player who must have a class organising 7 inside him.

              • Remind you of anyone chief he's wearing the 7 jersey for Parra now.

                • Moses always had the long and precise kicking game.  Dylan couldn't kick a ball if it came with a GPS

            • Maybe, Coryn. You have a point.

When comparing transformation from a 6 to a 7, I’d point to two factors. One, Brown’s long kicking game will hold him back. Two, character may. Brown seems more laid-back, while Moses seems far more intense and driven. He wants control. To be a General. Does Brown?

It’s only in recent years that Moses has learned to manage pace and tempo: slowing down that once-frantic nature of his. That’s improved his game management and allowed him more “time” on the field, especially between the ears. He admitted all that as ana side on the 'Sixes and Sevens' podcast. It's not just a vibe. Probably a mix of maturity, having a wife and daughter, and simply getting older has helped too.

I like Brown and want him to make it. But in my view, is still light years away from Moses even if he's given the keys to the kingdom. Holbrook is a damn good coach, so maybe. Hope I'm wrong. We'll see.

              • Traits I don't look what he doesn't have I look what he does have when we say long kicking game what and who are we comparing it too.

Id have said the same about Moses's defense did we ever think he'd become the defender he's become it's not impossible. So much like a long kicking game it's not something out of the question to add.Much like being a field general it took Moses years to get to this point he is now.

The comment that I completely agree with is the maturity and life experience which could well help Browns game much like it helped Moses.

What has to happen if you want Brown to play 7 is you have to allow him to fail unlike fans who'll just throw him under the bus and will use the I told you so line.Making mistakes and failing is the best form of learning unfortunately fans will just see it as failure but how else are you to learn becoming a half a 7 who runs a team doesn't happen overnight. You mention light years away id say until he's actually given the keys to a team I'd agree.
