I am starting to think we have the dumbest supporters on here .... watched they way we  manouvre and undermine any failures.

The relentless criticism and then the undermining of the coach, front office etc indicates some people cannot just understand the current problems.

Players were pretty pathetic today and I honestly think with the injuries and dislocation of being maimed that we will be lucky to win another game this season......Can we fix it, I doubt it, it is not an actual lack of effort it is more a lack of ability.

We have two backs with any pace and real class, both obviously carried injuries, you  all being such determined critics out there realising Moses could not run, or place kick. JAC's ribs are so heavily strapped he had problems breathing. Joash Pappilli tried hard, never dropped a high ball but had no support, Penisini has come back early from injury, Kelly is just a pathetic mess from a once competent player, Volkman was honest and the debut winger also honest. Realistically both Volkman and the new kid are not first graders. You can use players like that in one off's but not as regular first graders. It really was a non existent backline and the length of field tries that were put on us reflects that.

Our forwards I cannot defend them, but I do know that you only need one or two key defensive players out and you are buggered. If your backs cannot carry out defence, then the forwards will always be run ragged.....tell me you understand this?

See  I can defend my team, why cannot you at least attempt to understand our situation. Last year Souths had similar problems, their supporters  stuck with them, we don't have the talent that they have, it will be interesting to see if we keep our new St George players after he watches and see's this result but no we will blame MON for losing him and anyone else that wants to come.

NB Anyone that wants to sack the coach is a non thinking moron, he can only work with what he has and I am sure he is trying as hard as he can to come up with a side to play canterbury next week.....good luck with that one Jason. I don't envy your attempting to make something out of a club like Parra, but we stalwarts will support you.

Final point rather than being perenial pessitmists laced with disloyalty, try coming up with some solution's and commitments to support the coaching staff through this period of "seeming disaster"  without coming with your fantasy solutions.

    • Agree... speed and momentum used to be generated by fast sides, quick attack, quick ptb, quick defence, mobile forwards etc...  now it's generated by the ref and 6 agains.

V'Landys Ball does and should continue to eat a bag of dicks... the game gets worse by the year.

  • I agree, we are the dumbest supporters. You'd have to be pretty dumb to be continuously loyal to a club that hasn't won shit in over 40 years and doesn't seem to be getting closer.
You ask for solutions but I've run out. That's what the so called professional get paid for. We weren't much better when we had an injury free squad. The points against us has been crazy. 52-32-20-48-22-52.
I'm keen to hear your solutions seeing that you're being the perennial optimist.

  • I think one of the most concerning things is it isn't just the heavy loss but who it were against, it weren't against an Easts or maybe the New Zealand Warriors but it were the Gold Coast, a team who were expected to struggle this year and in some games have struggled. And on top of that the Gold Coast rarely if ever put 50 on anyone. I think they've only done it 2-3 times in their entire history, that goes for all the incarnations since 1988.

    • Steely, Titans have always been a good attacking side with plenty of speed......we were the perfect side for them to play against yesterday, the side that would have really given us a drubbing yesterday was DOLPHINS, with there speed you could add on another 20.
Imagine Herbie and Hammer and how many they would have scored.

  • Pops,

Interesting read & I’m trying (hard) to digest this ‘injury’ narrative.

But yesterday, the 1%ers, the non-non-negotiatbles, didn't exist, and didn’t exist from the first set - no injury, no fatigue.

Will5150 named them perfectly, but to see players like JAC & Smith give up chasing line breaks for the first time ever, thats concerning… and speaks to 100% mental.

A stark contrast to last weeks 1 point loss to a superior opposition, with similar injury issues.

The Eels ran onto the field defeated yesterday & Ryles seemed as concerned as many of us.

I agree on one thing, this loss wasn’t a ‘yesterday’ thing, it didn’t come from nowhere. It’s been brewing since pre-season.

Jason Ryles came into the club & completely transformed our defensive structures that had frustrated fans for years. A top 4 defence in the second half of 2025.

He transformed our attack into something multifaceted from anywhere on the field, another long term frustration for fans.

He had a team playing well above their ability, you could see the buy in & belief, the culture shift, and he had 17 players working for every inch, every 1%.

All vital assets to building a genuine contender.

Jason Ryles did his job, he exceeded year 1 expectations. As a club we had a golden opportunity to capitalise, to go all in & show Ryles & the players they believed too, that they backed JR with more than repetitive PR spin.

    Actions speak louder than words.

Pops, as mentioned last season, relying on belief & spirit alone, is not sustainable for months & months on end. It’s exhausting. It will fade when challenged repeatedly by superior ability. Especially when injuries rear their ugly head.

Yesterday looked more like a team mentally drained & without belief, than injured, imo. A team that gave up for the first time under Ryles watch.

Not only was JR severely let down in keeping / providing the squad he wanted, he was handed 2026 signings that have done more damage than good.

This isn’t using hindsight to our advantage. The moment DB signed at Knights, many of us warned we now sit on a knifes edge of remaining relevant vs costing us years developing 3 spine members. We now see it wasn’t restricted to our spine.

The Eels are where they are from failings off the field, not injuries on it, and we shouldn’t allow the excuses the club will now try and steer the narrative too.

The Eels could’ve been contending for a premiership with Ryles / Moses in 2027 - 2029, a huge achievement, but we chose a different path as opposed to striking, and we deserve every minute of yesterdays embarrassing slap in the face from realism & clarity.

You flinch in elite sport, and you fall behind. We flinched, again, and we flinched hard.

Like Chiefs blog suggests, there now needs to be accountability.

Whichever name you put that, I don’t really care, but in any profession, this level of poor performance needs to be met head-on. The choice is ours.

More than happy to cop criticism here, Pops, but im guessing many fluffing our 2-2 start are now seeing the forest through the trees.
  • Just an aside, looked at the ladder and we are equal on points with last year's minor premiers and last year's grand finalists, who by the way, have a world class spine, who are all playing as well. Maybe life is not too bad, at the moment. Maybe by round 12 I will have changed my thoughts lol

Just saying, we not the only ones sucking at the moment, and we have a third of our top 30 out injured.

    • Those other teams have an upside...we don't

Those other teams have Hope & belief...we don't
