Dargan next Parra Halfback?

THERE wasn’t much to cheer about for the Eels faithful in 2016 but the emergence of 19-year-old playmaker Troy Dargan could be pivotal for the club. The Holden cup halfback of the year played 20 games in the NYC, assisting 28 tries and scoring five himself. If this kid fulfills his potential, Kieran Foran’s swift departure could well prove a blessing in disguise.https://youtu.be/7_BfynWuMGg

  • Now you've jinxed him!
  • I've spoken to a few guys who i recon are good judges and who have watched his progression, they both recon he's no chance of cracking NRL and his defence is very poor.

    • Agree Snake....oh well there's another good u/20's player who probably won't crack first grade.
    • Maloney and Moses weren't to highly regarded either. You can never write someone off until they have had a crack. Some players never set the world on fire until they hit first grade and have other more professional players around them. He looks to be fairly creative but it's easy to look good in a highlight reel.
  • Snake do they think similar about Doolan? They were often spoken of together.
    • Neither rate him either mate, but thats only opinion, id love to see all these guys succeed and prove many wrong.

  • The next uummmm.......Tim Smith.
    • Very much so. Has the ability (as you can see in the highlights package, some of those cut-out passes to his winger are crisp) but doesn't know when to reel it in and go for the safe option rather than going for the try or the most spectacular looking play. If he could learn to do that, and also defend, then he has a future in the game.

At this stage, I don't see him as our next half. And I'm not sure who will be tbh, but I do believe that Norman and Gutherson will be our halves long-term regardless if we had any potential first grade halves in the 20's system next year.

Phil believes that Doolan is on the outer and could have possibly have left. Dargan is supposedly not rated by officials at the club according to someone on here (sorry can't remember who), Travis Turnbull was granted a release. We're left with Harry Brown (Maybe), and Alex Seve who is a mixture between a half and fullback which we have in first grade. Wouldn't mind seeing how Kyle Schneider would go back in the halves permanently but he is too good of a dummy half to move him from there, plus his experience in the halves means that he has a kicking game from the ruck which is something we could use but he's only 17 next year so still a while from 20's let alone first grade.

  • TWal and doolan are training the house down, so maybe that are smokies for round 1.
    • Which house are they training down? Parra's NRL pre-season doesn't start until the 1st of November.
