Darcy Lussick - His Important Role

It has generally been acknowledged by most that 2014 was not a great year for Darcy Lussick. Following on from a break out personal year in 2013, injury and loss of form resulted in a season well below the expectations of our front row enforcer. Consequently 2015 shapes as perhaps the most important year of Lussick's career as he looks to cement his role in a developing Parramatta Eels squad. What did round one show us about Darcy Lussick? Firstly, our firebrand forward is going to continue to play aggressively. This will be very important to our squad. Against the Sea Eagles, Darcy and the other forwards knew that they had the measure of their opponents when the Manly players began to look to see who was about to hit them. That quick look was enough to signal to the Parramatta boys that they were getting the upper hand and to drive them to ram home their advantage. Think back to that big hit in the first half from Lussick that forced the turnover from Manly and resulted in a crucial try to the Eels.A couple of first half handling errors from Lussick had some fans moaning his play early on. But perhaps the greatest measure of what we might expect from Darcy came in the way he responded to those errors. He stayed positive and aggressive in his play and rounded out a good performance with a slick offload in Sandow's final try. With Parramatta's front row stocks slightly depleted following the Junior Paulo suspension and the Richie Fa'aoso dilemma, the importance of an in form and aggressive front rower cannot be underestimated. For mine, it looks like Darcy Lussick is ready to step up and fill the bill!

  • I know he cops a lot of heat but I'm a huge fan of the way Darcy plays. So aggressive and intimidating, every club needs at least one forward willing to bully the opposition... of course it helps if the entire pack does. And with a name like Darcy, is it any wonder he grew up tough? His old man might as well have called him Sue.

Really looking forward to seeing Darcy fulfill his potential in the Blue & Gold. Wasn't he on the cusp of rep selection a couple of seasons ago?

  • Great post sixtys with some valid points. If he continues his form he started with last weeks, with his aggressiveness, as long as he controls it, could be a nsw bolter.
    • Thanks mate. Aggressive front rowers are vital to every team. Darcy plays that role for us.
  • Great read Sixtys, I agree totally. Always love Lussicks aggression!!
    • Thanks mate. I think that this blog is getting stamped on a night such as tonight.

    • The point of his second half performance was the fact that he lifted when he needed to. That is the importance of having players with that mindset.
  • He is to Parra what James Graham is to the Bulldogs, unfortunately plenty of penalties, but plenty of aggression

"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
