The world is steaming ahead at a pace never seen before. Is there anything in it to reshape-- power, leadership styles, and sourcing the absolute best in creative performance thinking by progressing to a higher level of teamwork performance? Keep an open mind. Maybe not for the current adult (?} mentally programmed generation---but for younger more adaptable thinkers of the future---it may have substance.

maybe baby steps for change

  • DAOs rose to prominence on the back of the crypto/web3 market, and that came crashing down in a burning heap over the last few months with all of the fragility of a DAO clearly exposed - decentralised leadership works great in the good times, but in the bad times it's usually better to have 'one throat to choke'.

The concept of coalitions is nothing new, but I have yet to see an example of a successful decentralised leadership structure in humans. We gravitate towards structure and hierarchy. Heck just look at the Eels, who couldn't get enough voting members to get behind well articulated, obviously needed reforms and we had to wait for government and legal intervention in the form of appointed administration (ie forced central governance) to get us in order.

So far DAOs in crypto seemed to be nothing but a badly disguised way for puppet masters to hide themselves (look, this company has no CEO and therefore no one to blame when they rug pull all their investors). Unfortunately it worked, basically all of them have gone under, all the investors lost their money and most of the "founders" are on the run, in jail, have disappeared or are planning their next scam.

    Just ask Do Kwon.

    • Captain would you consider the concept of working from home due to the pandemic a step in the direction in new ways of restructuring power structures in doing work. ?

There also is a lot of talk about privatizations that are not working the way they have been designed to work around productivity. Lots of Govt funding into aged care { where residents in some places have to live on food amounting to $2 a day},  Job seeker worker providers ripping off the system in a huge way {I have a friend who managed one of them and the stories he told me about the massive rip-offs from Government funding is huge. Same with many NDIS providers who are also ripping off the system as well as Govt subsidized child care providers., Govt run renewable energy departments stacked with fossil fuel appointees etc etc. Hierarchical systems also have many poorly functioning dynamics which are hugely expensive to taxpayers and in many cases corrupt.

I think there is a realization that many of our systems are being looked at to be run in a different way. No doubt they will have to also be monitored and I think that there will be a movement to rethink how different structures can work.  The care industry is dominated by underpaid female workers. [ eg well-qualified Child care workers get 47 cents over the minimum wage.) I think there will be a lot of movement coming from women to restructure many hierarchical business models. I suspect this will open up more creative ways in how business is done for greater efficiency. I suspect those efficiencies with an emphasis on qualitative outcomes{ eg better-educated preschool kids } will develop into a smarter and better-committed workforce.  I suspect there will be a rethink in different and more flexible power structures in things like sports with an emphasis on better outcomes. Many of the systems will evolve much more quickly than  we have ever experienced in the past

      • Crypto trader?

      • I totally agree that work structures (hours, methods, flex, location, contracts vs gigs etc) are under pretty massive overhaul which was dramatically accelerated by covid.

I won't be getting most of my employees back to the office, and productivity has gone up since the flexibility of working from home for me so I have no incentive to revert back.

Value/output based pay as opposed to hourly pay is definitely more in vogue than it ever was.

I think the next big upheaval will be driven by how the world tackles inequality - the problem of capitalism that still hasn't been solved and is finally becoming a problem too big to ignore with the younger generations the first in many that will have a lower standard of living than their parents. Solving this needs structural changes, but no one is quite sure what they are yet or how to implement them. Maybe with the continuous rise of robotics and automation a UBI is a better way to tackle rising inequality.

One thing is for sure, with the cost of living rising, new superpowers growing (China, India) and global conflicts starting to seem inevitable this time has all the ingredients for another large shift in society and how we function as a species. It's going to be an interesting next 60 odd years...

"You will never see equality if you think indigenous rights are the solution. Inequality is increasing, not decreasing, especially since elites began to make their populations focus on token gestures like that."
