Congratulations on a Team Effort

The most positive part of today's game was not the change in attitude I witnessed, it wasn't the improvement in our kicking game and it most certainly wasn't the win itself. The most positive aspect of today's game was the small role that Jarryd played in our victory.

Before I get slammed for suggesting that Jarryd didn't play well, that is not the point I am trying to make. The point I am making is that today's victory was a group effort. Jarryd did well - but didn't do anything to seal the victory for us. Instead, today we saw Tim Mannah step it up another level, we finally saw Daniel Mortimer regaining some of the confidence he had last year, we finally saw Timana back to his damaging self, fantastic running and defence from Guru, we finally saw glimpses of Matt Keating's old form, we saw how impressive Justin Horo is going to be, we saw commitment from Burt, we saw Justin Poore's best performance in the blue and gold, we saw the importance of the leadership of Caylo and Hindy, the role of Fui's fire, the importance of Robbo's defence and we saw some tremendously hard work from Ben Smith.

The reason I highlight this is because Parramatta is a confidence team. Once we begin to play together as a team and gain some confidence, we will see Jarryd return to his best form too. Jarryd is an intuitive player - the talent he has cannot be coached, it just happens. This is why when we depend on Hayne, we fall short because he tries to make the magic happen.

This game marks an important point in our season. It shows the boys they CAN do it without the magic of Jarryd. Hopefully this brings them some confidence, which will mean some of the 50/50 calls will begin to go away, Jarryd won't feel the need to be our saviour anymore and we will see him back to his damaging self.

:-) :-) Can I also just say how proud I was today of our boys. :-) :-) It looks like it beginning to click... all it took was some time.

  • The Horo ball to Tahu was a gem and got the ball rolling, Horo looks really likely for mine, could be the next Hindy!!

Matt Keating went better off the bench and that role suits him more

But the hero of the day was probably little Burt - his desperation to get to that ball before Rhys Wesser really proved to me that parra were back.

As for Mortimer his skillset in terms of ballplaying is certainly limited at the moment for mine, but in terms of energy and courage there are few better,
    • You are just helping to reinforce my point! Thank you! :-)

The game was full of 1% plays, which altogether helped us achieve a much needed win, and I don't think anyone of them was the result of Jarryd Magic.

      1. You already mentioned Burt's dedication in chasing that ball down, it really was amazing.
      2. Timana's giant hit, then he looked at the screen and started revving the boys up - this completely changed the energy flow of the game.
      3. The passion Caylo played with when he came back after being sinbinned.
      4. Mannah's amazing runs.
      5. Some of KK's defence - there was most definitely a try saver in there somewhere.

Everyone did their part and today shows that we are a lot more than a bunch of nuffy's who are there to make Jarryd Hayne look good!! :-)
  • I agree Tink. I remember thinking during the game that I was stoked with how well the boys played (second half) without Jarryd being the catalyst. Last week's performance was a start and we built on that today, but I won't get too ahead of myself... We all know how many false dawns there were last year.

Let's just hope we continue to improve. Can't wait to see what kind of attitude we hit the Cowboys with.
  • I think that the entire turn around of this game WAS TAHU'S AMAZING HIT ON HUEVER IT WAS IN THE BUNNIES

THAT GUY IS A LEGEND, HE GOT THE WHOLE TEAM PUMPED UP SO HARD AND THE VERY NEXT SET, WE SCORED

Tahu was definatley a stand out

TAHU FOR ORIGIN! TAHU V INGLIS ohh i can see it now:P
  • some of my observations.
    Positives.
1.Poore and Mannah and HORO were fantastic when coming on and completely shifted momentum our way. All forwards today started promoting the ball and our second phase play that we showed from last year came back, and with that we saw Mortimer cross over the line in an absolute 360 switch in focus at half time.

2.Kick chase. Fundamental in footy. it was shit all this year. It was great today in the second half and our middle field defence pressure was back.

3.Tahu Putting the hits on. When he is confident and firing his defence and attack is some of the best in the game and he was a bulldozer today.

4.Daniel Mortimers involvement all day and his step up in the second half. Mortimer has been very ordinary in the last few weeks but his second half performance, whilst not brilliant, had him invloved in alot of our plays, his kicking game improved and he looked to direct more of the play and support the pack when they were promoting the ball.Of course credit goes to our forwards for offering the time and space for him, So glad he got smashed in a tackle and then backed it up with a gem kick for burt and a try. will and did do wonders for his confidence.

    5. Offloads, we are a querky team, our errors went down once we started throwing the ball around...... its crazy but we just look more comfortable throwing the pill around. Good stuff. keep it up.

    6. the team was led around the park a little better and didnt rely on hayne every set of six, although prob should have given the ball to him more when he was calling for it on some of those 5th tackle options, but i cnt fault our 6 and 7 for wanting to take control. In fact i applaud it, but they should still try and give hayne some ball when they can, hes a freak

    Negatives.
    1. The whole first half. From both teams. both were running around with a 35% completion rate at one point. My god professional footballers wake up.

    2. Our playmakers vision 20 out on some of those 4th and 5th tackles were abysmal. KK looks very nervous when he has to make the 5th tackle option. Definantly not a ball playing half, can only dart out of the line and play whats infront of him, a few times the ball fell to him and robbo and they went the wrong side of the play and didnt c parras overlaps. i was screaming at the tv and sterlo was also saying it yet on a few occasions they kept going the wrong side. Fustrating stuff. Thats what we get from having 2 halves more comfortable with ball running than ball playing.. but morts looks to take over as a ballplayer.

    3. Inu cya later we cnt keep waiting for u to regain 07 form.
    • That reply is as good as it gets. Perfect sum up of a good performance, but not a great one. Certainly a relieving one. Can't wait for Reddy to come back. Wouldve won by more today without Inu sliding, stopping and retreating in defence confuzing the hell out of Grothe, and his stop/start facy footwork bullshit in attack. JUST RUN HARD AND WITH PURPOSE! Barra Eel, that was briliant. Our Forwards off the bench are really startin to push for starting postions too. Sign of a strong bench. Slowly but surely. Big game next week. Should win, but big problems is we go into old habits.
  • Boys,

I think both of you are being far too harsh on Krisnan Inu.

Ober - You suggest that he confused Grothe. I would suggest this is more because Inu and Grothe do not play together very often. Grothe is often a bit of a liability defensively and him and Reddy have learnt to work together on that wing. Reddy is traditionally very strong defensively and this is why he has worked so well with Eric. That said, I will concede that Inu's first read created a big gap leading to the first Bunnies try.

Further, Ober you want Kris to 'run hard and with purpose', when that's never been what he has been known for! That's more of an Eric thing to do. Kris is a razzle dazzle player who when he is on, is on. I thought he did decently today and even showed glimpses of his old form.
    • tinkerbell,
first of all, BOTH bunny tries were because of inu's back-peddling defensive reads, and he wasn't confusing grothe because of a lack of combination, he was confusing him because he wasn't performing the fundamental duties of a modern day centre. Centres move up, cut off time, force attacking players, particularly overlapping fullbacks running out the back at pace to make rushed decisions (ALA TAHU). They dont just stand, slide and retreat. Both bunny tries wouldve not bein scored if reddy was there yesterday. Inu made the decision easy for the bunnies. As far as his attack, i think you all underestimate how STRONG inu is. Since he made grade, everyone comments on how strong he is in the upper body area. Do we see him use it? Not never, but not enough. Sometimes, we need our centres to take the ball and belt it up if the game's tight and the fatigue sets it. I think theres a misconception that reddy is a defensive player and inu attacking, inu has more natural skill on the training paddock (as alot of those polynesian boys do), but from an affective at NRL level piont of view, reddy is a far more effective centre than inu. Some of his tries last year were not only plenty, but from all different styles, mostly just sheer determination. Doesnt matter anyway. I'll win this arguement on wednesday when ando drops him to wenty when reddy returns. Besides that, great effort boys. Not clinical, but very willing. Good stuff.
    • i was too harsh on inu? :( i think you are too harsh on me ....

haha seriously how was i too harsh on inu? :)
did he put in a performance for me to sing his praise? these are pro footballers. Im not gonna defend mediocrity.
But his performance wasn't even mediocre it was just bad... id rather spend more time praising those that put played good and put in. as i did.

lets face it he had a bad game.... and i was pointing out the negatives from the game, inu especially in defense was one of them.... we were lucky souths are retarded and didn't go down that side all afternoon. PLUS.. its pretty much official that he will not be an eel anymore and cnt hold a space in our starting line up so for all supporters reading that post, I was trying to provide comfort in the fact that our win against the bunnies was even better, in the fact that one of our players didn't have a good game and leaked points, therefore our performance was even stronger, and had reddy been there maybe we win bye more.. and that coz inu looks gone from the team his poor form shouldn't impact on us going for this title....

aaaaahhhhh see tinkerbell... now whose the positive one?
      ;P
      • His performance was certainly not bad. The stats prove that. 7 Dummy Half Runs(the most), 4 Offloads (the most), 105m, 10 tackles and 2 missed tackles. Inu can obviously do better. You also seem to have forgotten that Inu was pretty decent last year.
