Another good article in realtion to young Jake Arthur. The frenzied mob on here wont like it, and for my two bits worth I think some so called fans on here need to have an adult look in the mirror. It takes a lot to disgust me, but some so called adults and parents of children on here have managed to do just that. Im glad the JA haters tacked onto the Sack BA brigade can sit at home in their ivory towers with their annonimity intack banging away at their keyboards, making public statements about a fill in kid trying to his bit in a crisis...... The ones crossing the line from normal banter with pure hatred, for a kid. You disgust me, and yes there are big names in our tiny little pond of 1EE, well done id like to applaud your hero status., you disgust me!. You wont take a moment but try anyway and just reflect that little bit, id hate for any of your family or any of your friends or heaven fobid yourself to be subject to just pure hatred. You disgust me.

The article.

Rugby league greats have hit out at criticism of Jake Arthur after the Eels star came under heavy fire following a shock loss to North Queensland on the weekend.

The Cowboys thrashed Parramatta 35-4 on Saturday night and some angry fans on social media questioned why coach Brad Arthur was playing his teenage son at five-eighth, after shifting in-form pivot Dylan Brown into the centres.

The move was forced because of an injury crisis leaving the Eels short on outside backs.

But accusations of nepotism have been shut down by ex-footy stars, who say the barrage of hot takes about Arthur and Arthur junior have crossed the line.

Penrith premiership hero Martin Lang tweeted: “Jake Arthur is only 19 years of age and is a fine prospect. I’d like to see the CVs of those behind the nepotism accusations. Miserable, jealous individuals who want nothing more than to discredit the coach.”

Parramatta’s official Twitter account hit back at keyboard warriors on social media, saying “the Arthur joke is enough” and “it’s not funny”, before those tweets were later deleted.

Canberra legend Laurie Daley also defended the decision to shift Brown into the centres.

I don’t know about this nepotism stuff. That’s completely out of line,” Laurie Daley told the Big Sports Breakfast. “Look at the players injured, outside backs, Brown is a better option in the centres with Arthur at five-eighth with what they’ve got.

It’s not nepotism, it’s who he thinks is going to do the best job.

“If you’ve got a player that’s been shifted for necessity, that’s what you do until you get troops back, every day of the week.

“Brown understand the position they’re in and he needs to help Jakob Arthur and other players in that team. They were just off, the Eels.”

Phil Rothfield of The Daily Telegraph also said the criticism of both coach and player was unfair.

“Brad Arthur didn’t pick his son for the game against Newcastle without taking it up with the leadership group, Clint Gutherson, Mitchell Moses, Junior Paulo. This move had the support of the players,” Rothfield said on the Big Sports Breakfast.

“I spoke to Andrew Johns and he thinks Jakob is a terrific player. To blame a 19-year-old boy for a massacre in Darwin, when 17 players contributed to the loss, it’s unfair.

“If his name was Joe Blow we wouldn’t even be talking about him. Brad Arthur is struggling to pick 17, he’s got an injury crisis.”

Eels halfback Mitchell Moses spoke to Fox Sports before kick-off against the Cowboys and explained why drafting Arthur into the side was a smart move.

“Jakey calms us down a bit when things get erratic,” Moses said. “It kind of helps us in a way.

“Dyl is just a football player. He goes out there and plays footy — that’s what he is so good at.”

  • This is all getting very loud. IMHO I think the best thing for Jake would be to go to another club. If he makes it he can always link back up with his Dad at some stage. Given all this, he's in a lose/lose situation here.

    • Agree. This is not good for anyone now, most of all Jake Arthur. Going to another club seems like a great move if it can happen, he can step out of his dads shadow & hopefully prove himself on his own.

      • Yeah won't happen he won't get a shot anywhere else. I hope he does but the kid simply has nothing.

        • Have to agree regardless of what some experts are saying

    • Unless he actually performs Mutt, If Ivan Cleary debuted Nathan, he would still be as good as he is today. Only thing that can let JA down is listening to fans and media, if he is really good that is. If he isn't up to the standard he will drift away.

If he belongs in the NRL he will show us. True talents shine, Flanagan being one that didn't quite work, Cleary has, Walters is fine and plays a role.

All those players bar Flanno and JA debuted without their fathers, Flanno debuted at 21 in late rounds after an injury, Shane said he wanted to wait a little bit.
JA is one who debuted the youngest, and with the least amount of hype. Walters didn't to be fair, but Flanno and Cleary had plenty of hype, JA had hardly any and still doesn't to be fair, speaks volumes.

I hoping the kid works out, as we all are as we want great players at Parramatta.

    • Totally agree MM. He actually looks scared out there which is very different from his first game of first grade. I have no doubt BA is telling him he has a very simple job to do and he doesn't look to be enjoying his footy at all. A change is probably best for all

  • So having a different a opinion means your part of the frenzied mob? You carry on like everyone is personally attacking BA & JA when most of the time its about performance - get off your high horse  most of the debate is interesting, insightful mixed in with frustration and some banter . The club & BA knew  this situation would ultimately blow up so accepting the good, bad and ugly comes with the territory. I welcome all opinions doesn't mean I agree...BTW nice way to censor people with other thoughts and opinions

    • Bingo mick, im not buying into any of this garbage.

      • some of us need to keep the unicorns in check snake

    • Mick there is a difference between having a different opinion and stating it over and over and over again. People on both sides are going over the top.
I personally have the same opinion as a lot are stating in that I would like to see JA go back to reserves and develope his game.
But mate you have to honestly a lot of people on here are taking it too far and going overboard. How many times to people on both sides have to state there opinion almost word for word ?

I am from the old school of thought that if people try to push something onto me it actual does more harm then good for there cause? Ie bible bashers, vegans, greenies and sadely this situation all of those things are good in moderation.

We re-signed Volkman so at this stage, our spine for next year looks like:

6. Volkman
7. Moses
