Dear Members,

Many of you will have been recently reading and hearing a lot about our Club’s contract negotiations with our Players.

We have 14 players off contract at the end of this 2019 season and, while it has long been our Club’s policy not to discuss contract negotiations publicly, please be assured that we are working diligently to do what is in the best interests of both our Players and our Club.

As a Club, we are obligated to respect the integrity of the negotiation process and this ensures that our Club and each Player, and their manager, can engage in “good faith” discussions. As a management team, our goal is to implement a disciplined, strategic Player recruitment and Salary Cap program.

All our Players are important to us and we expect that they are treated with utmost respect at all times regardless of the speculation that takes place during negotiations. We urge everyone to support and value every Eels Player who wears our Blue & Gold jersey and we look forward to seeing that continue on Sunday.

Rest assured that when we have a definitive outcome regarding Player contracts, we will update our Members accordingly.

Kind Regards,

Bernie Gurr.
Parramatta Eels CEO

  • I get the feeling that the club are worried about fans booing Gutherson on Sunday which may sway Gutherson’s decision.

This should have been sent out 2 weeks ago when it all started to come out in the media.

      • Got to agree with Brissie on this one. What we are seeing is Media types getting pissed off because the leaks have stopped. So they are playing a type of hardball. i.e. we'll put you under pressure in the media by making shit up untill you start giving us some info.

The media are not complicated. A pack of wolves picking over bones.

    • Fongy, considering you have  considerable managerial and negotiating experience how would you handle the Gutherson situation?

      Curious for your insight.

  • They're just trying to downplay it to get it out of the media. It's a good idea. All this attention is obviously impacting on the players given Gutho even felt he had to come out in the media to respond to all the media stories.

  • A lot of the junky journalists like Paul (dopey) Kent and other clowns like him should be held accountable to their trouble making rubbish.

    • Journos like politicians and lawyers get away with lies.

      • Well stated Bernie, good to hear mangement are moving forward with all contract talks.

        • It says more than is in the writing.

    • How exactly Monto ?

  • watching the Gutho press conference it’s easy to see this is weighing him down big time .

For a dude whose asset is energy he’s clearly burning a lot of it on areas other than the game at the moment .

I continue to say this has been a complete mismanagement of negotiations by his manager. They know he’s most valuable at Parramatta and have tried to play negotiations out through the media with his reputation and form on Sunday suffering as a result . It now needs to be sorted ASAP before the season is completely derailed  when we’re currently a genuine chance at snaring a spot in the bottom of the 8.

I totally agree with your comments regarding the importance and benefits regarding local juniors at discounted rates, however,  this is only a factor with their 1st contract if they show promise.  Once a player starts showing they have regular…"

"We definitely need Lomax more than we need Grieg. Plus I back BA to develop gun forwards if we need to. We already have amazing forwards coming through our Matt, SG and Flegg team."
