PAUL Gallen and Chris Sandow will feature in a huge fight night in Sydney that will bring together some of rugby league’s heaviest hitters.
Gallen will headline the card which could include South Sydney star Adam Reynolds and former Parramatta halfback Sandow.
Gallen will fight in the December 8 event at The Star before stepping back into the ring on December 23 for another fight at Southern Cross Group Stadium in Cronulla.
Possible heavyweight opponents for Gallen on December 8 include Canberra’s Junior Paulo, Manly’s Brenton Lawrence, Brisbane’s Josh McGuire or Parramatta’s Peni Terepo.
Sandow will fly back from Warrington in England for another stoush on the same card.
The two opponents being discussed are Reynolds or former Sydney Rooster Jackson Hastings, who is still searching for an NRL club.
Although the fight night will certainly proceed, the exact card won’t be nailed down for another week or two. The evening will help raise funds for charities FSHD Global and Livin.
The December 8 fight night will boast other professional bouts, and the rugby league stoushes will be contested over four rounds.
Gallen and Sandow have committed at this point. The other players being mooted to fight have to be cleared by their NRL clubs. Chris will fly back from Warrington in England for the fight night.
Sandow would be a feisty competitor in the ring, while Reynolds could be a surprise success.
McGuire has often talked up fighting but seems to go quiet whenever challenged by Gallen.
Lawrence is fit and hard and would no doubt be a tough heavyweight.
NRL players would be paid for fighting. Organisers are negotiating with Fox Sports to cover the December events.
Gallen has started training for his two upcoming fights. The Sharks legend enjoyed grand final celebrations but was on Monday back in training.
His opponent on December 23 will be announced later this week.
Gallen will continue playing in the NRL next season but is still taking his boxing seriously.
He has power and could make an impact once he retires from rugby league after next season.
Meanwhile, well-placed sources suggest the Anthony Mundine-Danny Green fight next year will now be held in Adelaide.
