Oh yeah like a player like McLean would come available anytime soon, particularly with 2 new teams coming in where current clubs try to keep their best quicker to avoid them talking to PNG.
Who currently on the market for next year? For 2028 there are names and cannot sign any til November. But for 2027 there is hardly anything unless we take someone that a team is ok with letting go and is that good enough?
Many here want Timoko, Xerri or even Tago, yet these players aren't wanted.
It's the old adage of "Casey McLean is amazing, we should sign someone like him." How many McLean's are there currently in the game? Even then how many become available? If they are how much do we pay? Then when we do pay people will say we over payed and cannot get anyone else.
Look at Keaon, that deal I felt was warranted that we offered and not to over paid, but to get a McLean as a Centre you overpay and your cap is not how it should be.
This club needs a major signing ASAP, a large portion of our most influential players are at the back end of their careers, there isn't a whole lot of quality in our squad if you take them out.
Everyone is banging on about our juniors but it is another thing whether they are up to it or not.
Ok and who is the big target that's available? So do we wait to sign those off-contract and see them go to get a big fish then our overall 30 is weaker?

Oh please, he didn't even really put himself on the market. He reached out to Souths wanting to go where Bennett was and has mates there. If we were to be a chance we would have to pay up to at least $1.5mil. Then when he need a quality back-rower you would say "where did our cap go?"
We weren't mentioned, as nobody else wasn't as he wanted Souths with Bennett. So poor example.

Hes 22 and has more developing to do, not all 17 players are going to be rep quality, you need your players like Guymer in your squads.
Yes we need players like Guymer in our squad. Every club does. Do you hear about other clubs when they re-sign a fringe FG player who is not in their 17? Of course you don't because it's basically the minimum standard for their R&R. To try and portray this as some kind of coup is laughable. There's dozens of Guymers in the NRL right now.
Good to see him extend, he's a great player that's still developing and gives us a fair amount of utility value. Looks like they needed to lock him up with Doorey's recent injury.

Yeah it's not signing a superstar but still need to fill out your squad for the future. Dont keep Guymer, could get someone who shouldn't be near NRL to make up numbers, then more complaining ensues.
This is a fair signing and MON's job is to fill out the squad. He should have gotten Keoan over the line not denying that.
