Centres

We without a doubt have the worst centre pairing in the comp . You can look through every other side - neither of our centres would get a start in any of them . It's an area we have neglected in both recruitment and development. We have a rep level halfback and his strike on his side is battering ram Pensini who lets in 3+ try's a week and runs the 100m in about 22 seconds. He doesn't have the ability to compete for high balls , can't beat a guy with footwork , has errors in his game , can't draw and pass , can't catch and pass , defends on his heals , stops and comes in when the defence is sliding out , lacks attention to finer details .. he's just an out and out battering ram . His carries were pivotal in us beating the Dogs last week but they were needed because he invited the Dogs to score 3 try's.

Rusell isn't any better . Just no class about him at all . On his good days he competes hard and has a crack . He is a bog average player who has no clsss or finesse and worryingly still has more of both then Penisni .

Nanva showed more defensively in 2 games than either of the above 2 have in their first grade career. He has a bit of height and smarts about him and may be one to go with moving forward . We desperately need to recruit a strike centre who can compete athletically . It's an absolute must . If we want to keep Will for his tough carries going forward he needs a new position . He can't play back row because he doesn't have the motor or work ethic  - he's gassed after ever carry . It's a dead set massive problem for us moving forward if the club fhinks he's a centre we can build around .

        • he must have learnt of Waqa Blake

      • but his hands and passing are terrible ...and how many times does he make a break then drops the ball ....its gotta be 80%

  • Need a big name signing , Staggs or farnworth I'd settle for Xerri tho

  • Need to throw big money at herby or Joey Manu for a start

  • See now players like Luai see the PNG benefits of tax free TPAs and salary it's game over for teams that are struggling to recruit. This is where losing players like Talagi DB Lomax Sanders and alike hurts. The odds of developing talents like this is still there is harder and going to market competing against tax free is going to be a nightmare going foward.PNG just secured a coup when they landed Luai as there lynchpin your seeing the benefits already and I suspect there's going to be a pipeline of players headed there which lessens ours and everyone else's chances on the open market.

    • Let me get this straight, are you saying the eels have a crisis on their hands because Luai signed with png?

      • No they had a crisis on there hands 2 years ago when expansion was announced losing the talent we have and struggling to replace it is now on the doorstep. The Luai signing magnifies the issue that was there as first mentioned.

        • As well as an eternal optimist you are truly a visionary

          • It is the absolute worst time for an established team to be rebuilding its pathways and recruiting absolute worst time. Not locking up your elite talent also is a nono.

I mean what are we missing here how can a wooden spoon team like Newcastle and  everything still manage to lock up KP for another 3 years but we can't recruit elite talent on the open market and we seemingly aren't showing that sought of talent coming through our pathways.

We are looking like we are heading up shit creek without a paddle here.

If we some how can snag 2-3 really decent players this off season this may change and I include Jaydn Sua as one of those as we needed that type amongst our foward pack.Outside backs and a middle next get them in here.
