CARTWRIGHT IN LIMBO AS RIVAL CLUBS CIRCLE
Dean Ritchie
He has played all 16 games this season in a rampant Parramatta side but backrower Bryce Cartwright is yet to be offered a new deal.

Cartwright, 28, comes off contract after this season and while the Eels have expressed a strong desire to retain their edge forward, no offer has been lodged.

Several NRL clubs have become aware of the situation and are starting to make gentle inquiries about the former NSW State of Origin development player.

St George Illawarra could be an option for Cartwright, along with Canberra and the Dolphins.

The Dolphins may not have room for Cartwright in their salary cap, although the Dragons may be interested.

There had also been considerable interest from a prominent Super League club but Cartwright is keen to remain in the NRL.

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur is a massive fan of Cartwright, who also feels his game has improved this season under Eels assistant coach Trent Barrett.

Cartwright has been the one constant in a Parramatta side ravaged at times this year through injury, suspension and representative duty. Arthur wants to retain Cartwright.

Parramatta is wrestling with salary cap issues but announced last week that the club had re-signed and extended Bailey Simonsson, Josh Hodgson, Daejarn Asi and Matt Doorey.

The Eels also signed two forwards mid-season – Joe Ofahengaue from Wests Tigers and Andrew Davey from Canterbury.

  • He'll re-sign

    • Unfortunately they picked up Davey and used some of Carty's salary cap money

      • We released JA who was probably on about like for like or thereabouts with Davey salary wise. We will also be seeing the arse end of Waqa who'll free up some coin next season.

  • Surely they offer carty a deal. Around 400 450 be perfect

    • He will get close to 500k in total, across 2 years.

  • Hope we keep Cartwright - he is playing awesome

    • They'll definitely make a competitive offer

  • If BA wants it, the club will make it happen

  • Hasn't he turned his reputation around,  well done to BA.

BA's track record of getting the best out of struggling or average players, particularly forwards, is undeniably outstanding.

Gower, Mau, Edwards, Brown, Papalii, Davey and now Cartwright, even good players seem to get better,  jnr Paulo and RCG are two examples.

Edit. Hopgood and Matterson,  add any others you think of.

    • Lane lol
