Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith has shocked the Rugby League world and declared the 2007 & 2009 premierships should be returned.

Speaking at yesterdays season launch Smith was asked if the NRL should return the premierships that were taken due to cheating the salary cap. Smith replied, “Absolutely... They have a lot on their plate at the moment (with a spate of off-field scandals) and I don’t want to take away from some of the things that have happened over the past six months... But if the NRL can have a look back and go over what happened at the Storm over those years, they may find there is a different outcome.”

Smith likened the Cronulla Sharks recent salary cap cheating to the Storms previous stating, “We had premierships taken off us - this (the Sharks salary-cap scandal) is almost like a similar crime with a completely different punishment.. It (the Storm and Cronulla breaches) are reasonably similar...A lot of people got caught up in the overall amount we were over the cap... The most we were over in one season was $500,000... If you look over the course of time since 2010 until now, there’s a handful of clubs who have been over the cap by similar amounts and they haven’t been made to sit out a season or not play for points."

He has a point, there is no question the Sharks were over the cap in 2016. Not stripping the Sharks of their title is a tacit acknowledgement that David Gallop got it wrong with the Storm.
How did they get stripping the storm of premierships won while cheating wrong?, they got not stripping the sharks of their premiership wrong.

The disgrace is that we lost points, players and copped huge fines and now under this idiot's rule teams are pretty well just getting away with it. Maybe it is now an acceptable risk for a club to cheat - what's the worst that can happen? A bit of a fine apparently - and it seems alot of that fine will probably get "suspended" anyway.
Spot on Kram, if Storm get andy recompense, then the eels should be given the last 9's trophy that was played along with the prize money and the fine impossed by the NRL, problem is that it would hurt more because with those points restored we would have made the finals in that year as welll

This^^. IMO this is the biggest rort perpetrated on the game. To have joe punter believe that somehow the Sharks were cap compliant the year they won is an insult to the football fraternity

a. Roosters
b Storm
c South
d. Broncos or some one else....
