Cam Smith to knights 2013 (rumour)

heard a little talk about Knights possibly making a massive offer to lure Cameron to Newcastle in 2013.

Buderus is only on a 1 year contract, with no other standouts to fill his position in 2013.

Anyone else heard, thought he had extended his stay at the storm?

  • P..lease.
    • That would be a great blow to melbourne but man would the knights be practically invincible. Cam Smith and Wayne Bennett team up that is scary.
  • I don't think so. maybe for 2013 but not for next year. They signed Budderus and they wouldn't have done so if Smithy was coming
    • I did make a mistake, I did mean 2013 not 2012.
  • Speaking of the Knights....The Ken met up with former Knight Mathew Johns, who informed me that he would be assisting with halves coaching at the Pirtek Parramatta Eels in 2012.

    • Very good news. We're definitely looking for success in 2012.

I was interested to see Joey Johns speaking with Toovey and the Manly trainers about the wind conditions at ANZ about an hour before the Grand Final kickoff.
Looked like he was on their payroll.
    • That's really great, wasn't he the halves coach down at Melbourne and helped Cronk?
    • Thats great! not so much the coaching part... Matty Johns always publicly praises players/teams he works with. Having a media identity who will give the Eels some wraps is something we need. Gould, Fittler, Wendell, Johns, Alexander, Daley, Vautin, Pierce, The wiz, The King all have their favorites,  we don,t get that for Parra out of Sterlo.
    • What you heard here on 1 Eyed Eel first, thanks to The Ken, was broadcast on the MMM Grill team

      today

With the news that Joey has joined the Warriors as Halves coach from 2012, the boys on the Grill team naturally started quizing Matty about his plans for next season.

Matty told The Ken that he has good relationships with Kearney, Bellamy and Mcguire and has been approached by both Parra and Souths for a job as Assistant/Halves coach. Then went on to say that he was happy to help Melbourne, Souths and Parramatta next year but it would be nothing official and he would not expect payment for his services.

The main reason he said he didn't want to get officially involved with a club is that he feels it would be a conflict of interest and he would not be able to comment truthfully on that club.

As for the Marquee signing there has been no change since The Ken's last post on the subject.
