From Danny Wiedler Matt Burtons manager David Riolo asked the Bulldogs for permission to negotiate before Nov 1.  This was granted.

Riolo is trying to get ahead of the pack as there are numerous centres hitting the market come Nov 1.

The figure that has been offered to Matt Burton is as a centre and around the $700K mark.

Are we in the market?  Should we go for Birton as a centre or should we get him as a 5/8?

Thoughts?

    • Yeah he does have a brother, i think his brother does work with the dogs cant remember but does something with the dogs.

  • As a centre Burton would be great, as a 5/8, no. His spiral bombs are almost worth it.

    • Mathew, I hope you realise that Burton played all his junior football as a 5/8 and could not break into the Penrith side as a 5/8 owing to the Cleary/Luai combination..... if one of them was out for any reason Burton went straight to 5/8. He is a good footballer where ever he plays! also the reality is we do not have a 5/8 after Luai and his positioning gives us flexibility if any of our "perhapser"  juniors don't come through.

Personally I suspect Burton is not a happy camper at Belmore and if you are judging him as a 5/8 through them you only have to look at the Dog's performances and fcuk ups in their halves..

  • Volks luia samoa  combination just electric what chemistry . Moses will need to earn his spot

  • Burton 13, Volk or Blaize into 6

    • Holy hell.

Pay a lot for a 13 and then just chuck anyone we can afford into the spine.

  • I want him as a centre. Even if we had gaps at 5/8 he wouldn't be the type for me to fill it.

    I'd pay 900K + for him as a centre.

  • Can play centre

    Can cover 5/8

Can goal kick for the right money yes

  • Burton at 5/8 for the eels isn't the same as Burton at 5/8 for the dogs.

He hasn't been too effective for the dogs in that role because Galvin isn't a genuine 7, he plays like a running 6 with ball skills, two 6's don't make a 6,7.

Moses is a game managing 7 these days and all the eels need to supplement this is a ball running 6, that's what Burton is as a 6.

I would definitely sign him to play 6 for the eels with the option of moving him to centre if need be, the money we would be paying him to play 6 will be matched by a lot of centres in the next year or two so if he ends up at centre for us we won't necessarily be overpaying him.

"I sometimes wish Junior would model his game on Leniu's. No doubt Junior is a great ball player but if he focused more on his running threat his ball playing would naturally come into its own and be more effective "

"What's this thing about Blaize in the centres, Centre these days is primarily a defensive position, can you imagine Blaize lining up against Best, Herbie, Toika, Xeri, Mitchel.... he would be the focus of every club that plays against us.

"Well put Offie and JC, I failed to mention his goal kicking, he is a genuine first choice kicker and the naysayers have seemingly ignored that."
