  • Looks good
  • They didn’t really dig very deep did they. obviously no underground access to change rooms etc ala ANZ stadium & Suncorp
    • They didn’t want to dig into James Hardy fill. Joint is built on Non bonded (friable) asbestos.

  • Very stupid thing to say grunta. 1 of the reasons we are getting a rebuilt is cause of soccer Australia(wanderers) so lap it up.
  • This rebuild of a perfectly good club stadium ( if not the best for its age) could possibly cost the rebuild of a debacle of a stadium at Homebush. Two things have given AFL the leg up that has set Rugby league back. One was the super league war which we got through but lost a lot of bark. And then just as the game was recovering they built that ridiculous hollow stadium that some clubs honestly believed could build crowds. Ive been too probably 50-60 events there and can think of two occasions where I left with a buzz. That place sux.
    • Yes very true, the afl are making big progress and not as mutch bad publicity like referees decistions ect.
    • lol, I'm pretty sure it was built for the Sydney 2000 Olympics mate and anything else is simply a by product of it being there.

Sydney didn't have a stadium anywhere near capable of hosting a games so it had to be built -and love it or hate it, it's a world class sports stadium (and, yes, a shit club rugby league ground).

I thought Sydney 2000 was the greatest sporting event I've ever witnessed and am sad they are going to pull down what should be a great part of our cities recent history, but that's just my opinion :)

I get that people hate Homebush - but if you judge it for what it actually is - an Olympic Stadium - on it's merrits - it's one of the world's great stadiums . . . . and we're gonna tear it down..

    • If in 2001 the clubs and nrl agreed that it was too big for club games and couldn’t provide fans with the atmosphere they enjoy and come to games for, the whole stadium would have gone under through lack of use. They pretty much bribed them to stay. I think it’s about time the nrl got something back for its continued patronage of it. You can be in the front row and be 25 m from the closest sideline. I’m in row 19 for season tix next year and I’d love to sneak a tape measure in to see just how far from the action it actually is -league union or soccer it’s a dud.
  • Apparently they’ve been held back as asbestos was found buried in the soil.
  • I walked past it today and they were working. I know from previous blogs the steepness was a bit of a pisstake but the concrete is going up in the south end stand and the seating area is taking shape.

When i first saw the seating area I was genuinely surprised at how steep it is. You can clearly see that it will bring people closer to the dideline.
