Bryce Cartwright departs from Parramatta Eels

Parramatta Eels forward Bryce Cartwright will depart the club effective immediately to pursue new opportunities, marking a return to where his rugby league journey began.

Cartwright commenced his career with the St Mary’s Saints before progressing through the Penrith Panthers system. After stints with the Gold Coast Titans and a transformative period at Parramatta, he now returns to St Mary’s to conclude his professional playing career.

“I’m really thankful to the Eels for the opportunity to be part of this club, it always felt like a home away from home. I’m leaving with positive memories, lifelong mates and gratitude for everyone’s support, especially the passionate fans who have always shown me love.

“While I’ve loved my time at Parramatta, this decision is about making the best choice for my family and our future,” added Cartwright.

Parramatta Eels GM of Football Mark O’Neill expressed the club’s gratitude.
“Bryce is a wonderful person with strong family values. He has played some of his most consistent football with the Eels, and we wish him and his family all the best as he transitions to the next chapter of his life.”

Cartwright played his junior football for St Mary's Saints before being signed by the Panthers and earned a reputation as one of the most naturally talented players in the league. He made seven NRL Finals appearances throughout his career, and played for the NRL All Stars in 2017, and NSW City 2016-17.

  • He had 2 really solid years for us and a few flashes around that.

Always tried his guts out, sometimes a little too much. Overall he was a solid signing for the club on a small amount of coin.  Good luck to him.

I guess that opens a top 30 spot that needs to be filled internally or externally for this year.

  • Do thank Carty for his time here, he was an asset more than a liability to the team and will never forget his flick pass to Moses against the DragQueens.

But hopefully this means some juniors will be promoted to NSW cup and give them enough game time to crack 1st grade next year.

  • Geez we are freeing up some $$. Hope head office and JR have some signings coming.

    • But the thing is he was going at the end of the year anyway, so it didn't really effect us either way keeping him for the year or letting him go. He was not going to play NRL anyway but unless we are getting a signing before June 30 then it is a bit of a good will release.

      • As you say it is likely a good will release. Nothing more. Just frustrating that all we see these days are players being released and /or non-nrl players extending a year or so. Hardly earth shattering stuff from the R&R department.
Any update on Lane? No business can keep a position open and vacant forever.

        • I think Lane is good as done. He more likely will be retired or released early. Let's hope the investment in Will Latu pays off.

          • Given he voluntarily stood down, I wonder if he is currently in our cap? We've certainly had a ton of experience walk out the door.

            • Lane is apart of the RLPA comitee now. I recon that will be his future.

  • Someone must be coming before June 30

  • I hope someone comes before June 30, we need another starting forward
