Bryce Cartwright departs from Parramatta Eels

Parramatta Eels forward Bryce Cartwright will depart the club effective immediately to pursue new opportunities, marking a return to where his rugby league journey began.

Cartwright commenced his career with the St Mary’s Saints before progressing through the Penrith Panthers system. After stints with the Gold Coast Titans and a transformative period at Parramatta, he now returns to St Mary’s to conclude his professional playing career.

“I’m really thankful to the Eels for the opportunity to be part of this club, it always felt like a home away from home. I’m leaving with positive memories, lifelong mates and gratitude for everyone’s support, especially the passionate fans who have always shown me love.

“While I’ve loved my time at Parramatta, this decision is about making the best choice for my family and our future,” added Cartwright.

Parramatta Eels GM of Football Mark O’Neill expressed the club’s gratitude.
“Bryce is a wonderful person with strong family values. He has played some of his most consistent football with the Eels, and we wish him and his family all the best as he transitions to the next chapter of his life.”

Cartwright played his junior football for St Mary's Saints before being signed by the Panthers and earned a reputation as one of the most naturally talented players in the league. He made seven NRL Finals appearances throughout his career, and played for the NRL All Stars in 2017, and NSW City 2016-17.

  • I hope someone comes before June 30, we need another starting forward

  • So what's the game plan here.

Release players and replace them with no one or replace them with other clubs rejects?

    • BEM i am one to back the club and at times support them, but this one is weird as yeah we free up cap but he was gone anyway so neither here nor there having that cap free now unless you prop up some contracts this year but even then most of the year is done anyway.

Very odd release. Had they released him with a year left then fair as they want that cap for 2026.

      • unless the "goal posts" have changed with a player now becoming available in a similar position?

      • Or Riley Smith now gets a top 30 spot and decent coin commensurate with starting most games now. The poor bloke is on minimum development coin and is the starting dummy half making 50 odd tackles a game. Deserves a real top 17 pay packet me thinks.

On another note, I thought based on his form Cartwright retired 2 years ago.

        • Dont have an issue with that.

      • He may have opted to leave. He's going to St Mary's so stepping down below NSW Cup. No real benefit to us to hold onto him on the cap.

My other thought is about Ryley Smith. Have we upgraded him yet?

    • Cmon BEM, do you not think Ryles has a plan in place?

Brad was the person who brought in the players nobody else wanted like Lumi Lumi Cini Momosia Werimu greg Murchi ect ect

Why don't people give Ryles a chance??

Cartwright was never going to be re signed.  He has some injury concerns late in his career

      • Honestly Chief, Ryles doesn't seem to have much of a plan.

Greig was wanted by a few clubs when Bushie wanted him and Ryles has picked him this week.

        • I think Ryles has a plan, like all coaches would. Difference is if it is a good one or not.

"Peter OSulivan and Wayne Bennett built and stacked that team.
If Redcliffe can hold onto Katoa they'll be a threat for real going down the track for sure."

If that's the case Bellamy counts too."
