The Parramatta Eels can confirm that Brendan Hands has been granted an immediate release to join Toulouse Olympique for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Hands remains contracted to the Eels for the 2026 NRL season.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said, “Brendan has been terrific for us during his time at our Club. This is a great opportunity for him to gain valuable experience where he can continue his development in a new environment”.

  • MONs press releases are recommended reading honestly when is this fwit going

  • Makes total sense, time to leaving the building if there pathway or future at the club.

  • Ryles just needs to clean out those who hired him and job done. It does leave you wondering what decisions  MON makes vs the coach. Surely Ryles is making the calls on recruiting, legit question..... what's that leave for MON?

    • MON's had a super busy year thanking all the players who are leaving and wishing them all the best

    • I suppose if Ryles tells the club that he will not be naming certain players in either NRL or NSW Cup, then the club has no alternative than to find them other employment. No point in just naming players if you don't believe they are what's needed. In that regard I'd be very surprised if Matto comes back next year. I reckon it's more likely we'll pay some of his salary to play at another club (UK).

  • Freeing up a top 30 spot for our new very, very good second rower/lock?

  • Are we moving into a new phase. We have gone from handing out Player options left right and centre to now loaning out players on contract, and granting them indefinite leave.

Im assuming re Matterson / Hands and Lane, the club havnt been able to convince them to leave their Eels contracts so they are hoping they find a new environment and may want to stay there next year, and thus leave?

    • Low risk i guess, we have several other players off contract that won't be renewed who keep spots for these guys til they find new homes. You would assume the intention is for them not to return.

    • I'm wondering exactly the same are we paying these guys to leave to open up spots for juniors hoping these guys find contracts elsewhere.

Matto is on 600 plus next year no chance in hell he leaves that on the table without a long term deal or equivalent money else where.

Same same with Shaun Lane Will this guy leave the last year of his deal on the table also or will a financial comprimise be found.

      • Lane isn't fulfilling his part of the contract so could be grounds for terminating the deal. Matto, you just know he's going to hang around and take that $600k rather than fight for a multi year deal elsewhere.
