PARRAMATTA half Mitchell Moses has skyrocketed back into Origin contention.

NSW Blues advisor Greg Alexander revealed the Eels playmaker has thrown his name back into the mix for the Origin I side off the back of strong back-to-back performances.

“His last two games, he’s been pretty impressive,” Alexander told NRL Tonight.

“I know he was on the radar before the season got underway and it’s been difficult for him to showcase his skills with Parramatta starting the season so poorly and losing their first six games and the halves really struggling and Mitchell was part of that

“When you have a look at their two wins, the Manly game was a mismatch. The Eels were so desperate and they played against a Manly side that just weren’t there on the day but gee it was a quality game against the Tigers last week.

“Both sides were up to it and that win against the Tigers will do the Eels a world of goof and Moses was very good again.

“He’s been spoken about before the season got underway and he’s certainly put himself back in the frame with his last two efforts.”

It should come as no surprise Brad Fittler is a fan of Moses’.

Moses spent time working under Fittler last year as part of the Lebanon World Cup side.

“I really enjoyed playing under him in the Lebanese squad,” he said.

“He was the best suit for the team that we had.”

Moses: I'm ready for Origin

At 23, Moses is in his fifth season in the top grade and believes if Fittler calls on him, he’ll be ready to pull on the jersey.

“I’m not really going to look too far into that,” Moses told NRL Tonight

“I’m going to keep playing good footy for Parramatta and keep getting good wins for Parra and I think that stuff will sort itself out

“I do think I’m ready but I’ve got to keep playing good footy for Parra.”

  • If Mitch is chosen in SOO, who replaces him?  Choices likely could be Will Smith, Jaeman Salmon, or Gutho to halves and Hayne at fullback

      • Has he ever played ok in that spot?  From memory he was average at best and he went back to the fullback spot when he showed it was not working.  IIRC it was under RS.

    • Gutherson to 5/8th
      French to fullback
      Hayne on wing
      • Tend to agree with you KingGutho, as Poppa said Hayne is no 5/8.

Could see Hayne and French switching depending on the kicking game of who we are playing. The big body at the back helps.

  • NSW must be desperate .

  • Isn't Kris Keating available?

  • No one has a bigger opinion of Moses than myself, but I wouldn't like to see him thrown into Origin this year. He really needs to show he can put it all together in a finals series, and he came up that little bit short last year with some of his options. This year really needs to just be about bringing his A game every week, and more so, showing he can steer the team back into the game when the momentum isn't going his team's way. I think he'll be Maloney's successor, but I can't see it being this year.

    • Agree with your comments 1EE the same goes for Cleary. I think a further year at Penrith would be helpful for him as well. A report today suggested that Cleary will be back within the next 2 weeks. That being the case I think he may get the nod.

If Cleary and Moses are not picked to go with Maloney who then, Keary?

    • I'm on your boat with that 1eeyed

  • Hayne has always been average at 5/8 the times that I have seen him play there. Not saying that he could not make a go of the position but he would need time there and the coach would need to be patient.

Gutherson I think would be a better stop gap. Anyway better than Edwards or Takirangi who have been used there in the past.

I think that Salmon is playing ISP this week and it would be good to see how he goes.
