Blog sponsors instead of Google ads

In the interest of pushing the site forward into what I see as a new era, I am in discussions with Australian companies about sponsorship opportunities in 2025.

While this has centred on the podcast that is being planned, the site itself attracts an engaged viewership and has continued to grow.

I am looking at having some regular blogs sponsored during the 2025 season such as match previews, reviews and game day blogs. I'd also look at putting a sponsorship at the top of the home page where featured blogs sit.

This would not be in addition to Google ads. Blog and site sponsors offering a discount on their services to 1 Eyed members would result in a reduction in Google ad slots.

I am only looking at sponsors and brands I believe you would be interested in such as sports merchandise companies, gym wear, meal prep and outdoor companies. Happy to take any other suggestions you may have as well.

I am personally ruling out betting and alcohol sponsors. There is enough of it in the game itself that I don't think we need it on this site as well.

Is this something you would accept on the site?

Are there any concerns or considerations I should also be aware of?

  • Onlyfans sponsorship?

    • We do engage in masochistic practices by supporting the Eels.

  • Yup sounds good. I think food outlets with specials for members advertised could also be good.  Example take your phone into Ali Baba kebabs ( example only ) and show them you're open on the 1EE page and there is their members combo deal open on the screen .  I guess picking either a chain with multiple locations would be needed or knowing where a large core of members are located.  Doesn't need to be food, could be a Metro petrol deal for example , although the DIBs are staunch doggies fans.

    • Good suggestion Wiz. I know Vasco's has previously sponsored the Eels. El Jannah operates in CommBank. May be an opportunity with them.

      • El Jannah would be a good one. Theyre just about to launch a new chain under a different banner too.

  • I would be interested in understanding this sponsorship committment for my own business in Logistics

    • Pretty much you pay us a toot of your truck horn whenever you see us walking and we pretend to be pulling on the air horn chain

  • Can we also rule out club sponsorships ?  We don't need to be moderating ourselves anymore as the clubs a financial sponsor ? It'd be great to get a members discount on merch and shit I  guess, but how do you draw the line ?

    • I'm not keen on having the club sponsor us. While it wouldn't impact the way I'd run the site, I don't even want the appearance the club could be part of the moderation considerations.
