Big test for our wingers and full back

Melbourne will be studying what Souths did to us in the first half they scored because our wingers both have a tenancy to come in to support our centers they will have to position themselves better defensively and stay on there line. Also with will smith at full back  cooper will put those little kicks through and have Slater storming in to score if his positioning isn't right i just hope we are going to fix these issues before game time.

  • Welcome aboard Syd!

    • thanks mate i have been always watching the blogs better to join i have enjoyed most of your comments as well makes sense

  • I think that's where French really shows his value. He just seems to get into the right position to defend on the line. Smith is a good fill in attack, but I agree that our wingers do tend to come in too far in defence. Hopefully our kicking game will be spot on, so Melbourne won't spend the game inside our 20m.

  • Gee, the Storm would be licking their lips at our defence on the wings. They will pass back inside and look out, our forwards need to slow their giants forwards right down and win the forwards battle. It's going to be a very hard game we need everyone at their best and no dummies.
  • It's a big test for one of their wingers as well.

Last time we played them Semi was unstoppable.

  • Agreed Brett. We have had a lot or points scored against us that way this year though. I don't know what the solution is.

  • The difference between a winger with speed is that they can turn and make up the yards.. but with kirosome he is too slow
  • Smith is rubbish, and will be found out badly.

  • That is crap. Almost every occasion the centre has their man covered but the winger runs in to "assist" leaving their man unmarked. Its been happening at the Eels for over a decade including EG jnr & we have yet to get a coach with a clue on how to stop it.

And BTW I played many games on the wing & its not rocket science on where to position yourself in defence!

  • Hoffman should come in for Auva'a and then Norman should defend at Fullback when the Storm are attacking (inside our 40)

"Your right. We need to build from within the pathways. We have an elite prospect in every position. It's just that those centre and wingers are only in SG Ball next year. Every other position, they are already in JF or Cup"
