Beware NRL, your time is approaching to an End.

Tonight's local derby between sydney and wsw that soccer is here and it's going to take over.Hate to say it but NRL is dying!!!Don't give me the poor excuse that people don't go to league games cause it is on foxtel, so are A league matches and look at tonight, over 40k crowd attendance. The Independent commission could of used Hayne and parra to promote the game, but the powers to be have no idea.David Gallop, take a bow!!

  • Soccer. Isn't that European??
  • They can comfortably co-exist. Different times of year, different player athletic profile so they can't poach each other's players. It's easy to be a fan of both.
  • Riigghhttt, the NRL is under threat from a competition that is played in spring/summer.
  • lol, what a load of horseshit, come back when they Aye League is ever showed on FTA tv, the ratings on Fox are about on par with the Toyota Cup.  Wanker's praising Sokka while tearing down the TGG have no idea and are only listening to hacks like Slothfield.

  • Agreed that they can co-exist, agree that you can support both, also agree that the NRL is a dying game. Not as a result of football (soccer) but as a result of 1:the rules 2: the officiating ( a reflection of the rules) 3: The management ( who panic and bring in off the cuff rules & won't change the rules they should)

The declining free to air audience, the declining Subscription TV audience guarantee a smaller TV rights deal the next time it is up for negotiation, the ground attendance is down as well.
  • I've been hearing this for decades.Until they find a way to make soccer less gay and more entertaining,I'll file your warning in the "shit I couldn't care less about" category.

  • A League won't take over but I agree, NRL is becoming more of a bloody soap opera drama, its boring, contracts mean nothing (look at epl, some team is going to pay over a billion just for Ronaldos transfer fee), disorganised, refs are a disgrace, rules are ridiculous.

NRL needs a draft, it needs player trades, it needs rule changes, it needs less fkn video ref and it needs to tighten up contracts and referee capabilities.

  • lol, EPL beat the a league in ratings last week and its shown 1am in the morning.

A league got around 95,000 last week. NRL on a bad day get 200,000 viewers.

All about tv ratings these days bottom line.

    • Yep, until the Aye league can onto free to air TV when AFL and the NRL are played they will always be battling out for Yawnion as the 4th sporting code.

Last year Gallop was talking up the Aye League until it got absolutely smashed in the ratings by the big bash.

For how many years have dickheads been writing league is dying articles???  Why do people continue to fall for the bullshit???   RL is the strongest it has ever been, we finally have money in the bank to have a decent crack at the AFL and become the number 1 sport in the country.

    • Who the fk you calling dick head
      Dickhead

"The defensive issue is in the halves, Pezet was a turnstyle in that period and our defence misshapen, it was only after Haas went off that we regained any rythm.....Moses was also trying to be everywhere and ended up nowhere, clutching air a lot.…"

"JDB had the highest tackle efficiency of any Eels player at 95%. That's basically his job. Make the tackles in the middle in the opening 20 minutes."
