Bernie Gurr - On the couch with Sterlo

No doubt many of us would have caught Sterlo's interview with Bernie Gurr tonight. I don't think I've heard a more coherent, succinct and pure definition of what excellence looks like for a sporting club than Gurr's position this evening. He had the sort of clarity & confidence that only comes from decades of consistently delivering organisational success. There wasn't even a hint of jargon or management-speak, no mention of "5 year plans" or "strategic reviews" in their place he spoke of the elements you'll find in the cultures of all high-performance organisations: quality structures, clear processes and lastly authentic and inspiring leadership. This is to say nothing of his strategic vision for rugby league within Western Sydney, and the broader NRL. A class act. We're lucky to have him.

  • Seriously the OP is getting too close to being pornographic. Please rethink and try again.

  • We just need results on the park to back all the talk up, no doubt we are the premiers of blowing hot air.

    • Agreed. The last two weeks were a kick in the guts. Especially the game against the Tits. I think we're onto a winner with the Gurr & Arthur combo.
  • LOL - My point is that you can tell from listening to the bloke that he's delivered success from similar positions in the past. That absolute lack of fluff only comes from someone who's been around the traps long enough to know what to do and what not to do. When you consider his performance tonight and weight it up with Phil's comments from his time with Gurr at the St George game and the fact that he was there to watch not only our first graders get around the park but the lower grades as well and I think its safe to say Parra have landed the sort of coup that will, if nothing else, lay the sort of foundation that a club of our scale & pedigree deserves. Given what we've had to endure over the last 15 years I think that's a worthy reason to get excited. Given the state we were in we needed the footballing equivalent of a Jack Welch to come in and turn this place around. If we didn't land the right CEO it would have been the beginning of the end for this great club. Any organisation need only look as far as the quality of its leadership when looking for reasons as to why their performance is what it is. For the first time, in perhaps the history of this club our CEO is the man for the job.
  • Agree, Gurr was the right man for the job.

  • Nah he's shit. I want to hear him come out and abuse the team and coach for the recent performances. Because I'm fucken pissed!

    • Hahahaha - the only time I caught myself questioning his position was his comment around there "being no easy games to win in the NRL" given the combination of the salary cap & the support structures that underpin each NRL club these days. There was a part of me that thought to myself: "come on Bernie you and I both know that the Titans game was a piss-take", but clearly that's one of an infinite amount of reasons why he's a seasoned CEO and I'm just some punter on an internet forum. LOL! What will be interesting is if he's presented with a scenario where he has to send a message, subtle or otherwise, to the fans in the event of consistent mediocrity (read: finishing in the bottom 4). I don't think we'll be in that position, in fact, I still think we'll make the 8, but it will be interesting to see how he handles that sort of situation if/when the chips are really down.

    • He still owes Wiz money for methadone.
    • Escobar, you are shit. Go and support another team you imposeter, your comments make me sick. After 4 rounds
2 from 2 you put that shit on Bernie WTF
Go and look in the mirror and give your self an uppercut.
  • He has the confidence of a man who knows only too well that if his current job as Eels CEO doesn't pan out, he can walk straight into the role of horse racing commentator.
