Ben Roberts

When we first signed Ben Roberts I was extremely pleased. This was namely due to the fact that Ben Roberts is one of my favourite players and I have strong memories of him in top form tearing the Broncos apart.

At the same time I was a little disheartened. Why would we sign a player who couldn't even beat Kris Keating - a player we let go - to the starting 5/8th spot at the Bulldogs.

However, since been injected onto the bench in recent weeks this has improved my outlook on the Roberts signing. This shows that he is willing to work and earn his spot and this work ethic has led to his recent inclusion in the Bulldogs starting line-up.

Last night against the warriors, even in a well beaten side, Ben Roberts showed his class. Especially in the first half he was orchestrating the Bulldogs attack well.

I think that behind a strong Eels pack, with Sandow at halfback and Hayne at fullback we will have formed a strong core or spine.

I for one am surely looking forward to 2012.

  • We will be looking a lot better in those positions you mentioned. Halves = Sandow, Roberts, Hayne, McGuire, Morts. Fullback = Hayne, Burt, Barba.
  • tbh Neither Roberts nor Hayne suits Sandow's playing style.

I think Parra will have some halves problems next year.

    • Parra having halves problems? Wooow would have never guessed that =p.
    • I think your wrong on this one D10, Roberts and Sandow naturally play on opposite sides (left/right) which is needed these days, Roberts is a gifted playmaker which will help Sandow who is a gifted individual player. Hayne would also suit Sandow for the same reasons. Hayne would also attract alot of defenders creating space for Sandow.
    • Either way it pales in comparison the the halves problems at the dogs.
    • not more than the Dogs will with Hodkinson and Keating

    • Ok Mack. I think you've made your point. You don't like Roberts. In some languages repeating a point adds emphasis. English isn't one of them.
    • What.. would you rather he typed it in exclamation marks ?

"I wouldn't call him a gifted playmaker, more like a talented athlete".

      Spot on.

  • Add to their worries that kk is out for 5 weeks with an elbow problem.
  • I'm looking forward to him coming. I hope the change does him well and we look back at his signing very fondly.

One thing about Fifita that often gets lost in the narrative is he's a quality defender.
