    • All it takes is one player to join and others follow. Luai went to Wests and others followed.

Foran was that for us in 2016.

  • People complaining that we could not land him.....he went to a team that has just won the comp; his wife has extended family up there and as others have said its Brisbane with their backing etc. Hells Bells, its hardly a suprise - he probably feels he can play top 4 and more up there now than in 3 years.

I am not a huge M'ONeill fan but this is hardly on him - all reports said this was a deal last week.

Move on - and yes we need to look at depth when Junior moves on and JDB, as our young props need some time. Ryles knows what he is doing and the forum night emphasised we are going after players whom we deem as suitable for various reasons.

    Just worry about tonights game.

    • You don't think there's a pattern emerging here?

  • Nothing new to see here that's the third big name target we've had a shot at on the market and can't seemingly compete even offering overs.

The fact Barnett is 32 isn't the worry Brisbane don't care how old he is he's the type of player that they wanted and we wanted. We seemingly still can't compete.

The clubs doing the right thing with regards to development applaud them for that wheather we have any future upper echelon talents I think is the real issue around it.If we think getting to FG is good enough well again we are screwed.I don't know what's going on with regards to recruitment but god damn we need to close these deals if we are making it known we are interested.

    JR sorry sunshine your 0/3.

    • Ryles and MON are 0/3 Coryn. I'd say the same with BA that it was him and MON with signings, though at the end of the day MON builds the roster that is his job. But also it is at the discretion of the coach in what they want.

Also Brisbane's pack is reletively young so of course they don't care. We have 4 players in our pack that are over 30 tonight, they have 1

    • Coryn,  who should go first, o'neill or Sarantinos??

      • None of them there protected the only time people like them leave is if they walk.

So who would I have leave first who cares do you think my opinion has any sway or anyone on here does.

  • This just now confirms that our R&R negotiators are sh*t!

  • Maybe the only way we get change in R&R is if / when Ryles & maybe Nathan Brown push that narrative.

If we are relying on this squad to be competitive enough to attract top-tier talent (finals, top 4, contenders), we are in trouble.

This team fights above its weight, normally, to their credit… And we have promising juniors & value-for-money workers - the club have done an amazing job here.

But, look at the other line ups - we severely lacking elite talent, rep players, and genuine first graders in some positions.

The Eels look millions under the cap on paper.

People saying Barnett would have been a desperate play, well, take a look around?

We have a rookie fullback (as good as he is), rookie dummy halves, and a rookie halfback playing out of position in 5/8th (for 12 months).

We lack serious punch in the front row, Sean Russell is our best centre (& he’s leaving), JAC our only genuine first grade quality winger, who signed due to off-field issues.

    Ryles might be feeling desperate.

As others said, the only way now looks like junior development, and hope for a storm in a tea-cup moment the Panthers had - except, we don’t have Nathan Cleary coming through.

Add Galvin & Kaeon to this team and it contends for top 6, that likely snowballs into attracting other talent, and keeping our quality juniors here.

Without paying overs to a few elite-talents who can help turn results & recruitment around, we aren’t signing any.

It’s how the Dogs started their rebuild, paid ‘overs’ to the right players / personalities, recruitment & results grew from there.

The impact of failed recruitment isn’t only in who we miss, it’s who we might lose along the way too as our promising juniors become targets from competitive clubs.

This isn’t about Barnett, or even Kaeon, Galvin or Dylan Brown in isolation.

The Eels are incapable of signing a level of talent that the coach clearly feels he needs. Thats a pretty big problem.

Let’s hope we can get some good news on the field tonight, fans deserve it.
    • NOS would you consider my idea of getting Brian Smith in some role in back room to help with signings? One thing he was good at was recruiting.

Not all the time but he did some great signings. Pair him with a new GM and just having that bit more footy nouce in your system helps behind the scenes.
