BA what game where U watching!!

After been down 6 nil & to fight back to 12 -6 to lead, only to be nutted by 4 penalties in a row, the momentum of the game shifted to the home team with all the possession & points in a 14min window, manly were unstoppable.

Once they changed Paulo, Evan's & Brown the team didn't adjust to the speed of the Ruck that manly were playing at. Manly played "offside at the ruck" & continued to walk off the mark. Going against us we had no possession, no momentum & our errors were going through the roof. If BA thinks they were soft in the centers, why did they score 5 tries through the wings. BA has never played in the centre of the ruck & has no idea with what's required to "dominate the centre".

David Kidwell is not a Defensive coach, couldn't tackle to save his life, so how is able to teach the guys patterns & systems on to win games, where he has little or no knowledge at all. Reed has been told to tackle low around the legs, which is ineffective if he does not have numbers to help him "stop the ball" movement. I feel as thou Eels did compete on the day when opportunities arose but too many decisions favoured the home team. Tommy Turbo against Gutho..priceless Haha.

  • BA no matter how long he coach’s parramatta he won’t win a GF, and if fans are happy with a top 8 birth every second year then they have rocks in their head.

  • I like to see us get Mark_Carroll to coach as our Defence coach i saw him couple of weeks ago and i ask him would he take up a coaching defence coach if he was ask he said if the money was right he would n didn't matter were he went to

    • Agree with this comment Poppa. I do remember when D.Kidwell used to cut some guys in half and thought this was a sh!t Blog

    • Remember that hit Kidwell put on Willie Mason in a Test match?? Massive!!

      • BM. thing is, at least to me is that was not a tackle.  If he was playing today he would be before the judicary for a shoulder charge.

In saying that, he was a reasonable 2nd rower and was able to tackle, but what has he done since retiring from playing? He's been with the storm for some years who have turned out coaches from their assistant roles, including BA, Maquire, and Kidwell. While he has some fair stats as a player, what has Kidwell done since retiring from playing?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Kidwell.

What is missing from those stats is his Storm assistant career, the wests appointment and sacking, and what he has done at the eels.

          • Understand Pops.  What gets me though is the simplicity of his failure, and its no different to many other players who were great players and never made it as coaches. I don't believe Kidwell was a great player but was better under Bellamy,  (I cannot remember Bellamy as a player though, as his years at Canberra where when I was in the bush and rarely was able to watch the game let alone go to one)  Bellamy's record as coach looks great at the Storm with a win percentage of 69% but his rep stats as NSW country coach of 33% and NSW Coach at 22% are not commanding. Perhaps Kidwell learnt under those later stats.

Having Jiminez come up first was a top move as while we did not improve our win ratio there was better coordination in the plays, when Kidwell came last year there was nil difference to how the team went with just having Adrian there.  This year, while not being a total disaster as far as where we sit on the table/oops ladder as the table would break under the strain with the defence figures, we are winning very ugly with the assistance of other teams being worse.

While BA has had all the flack its only been reasonably recently that the Kidwell aspect has come into play, and that is the worst aspect of it. We have BA for 2 more years, but he needs someone as defence coach that knows how to defend but also one that can communicate it with affect on the players..  Forwards know that Defence is vital to their game, but we have forwards who we have seen defend well but rather than going forward and developing their defence to another level they are going backwards or so it seems. In that area the defence coach has failed.

I guess BA as head coach has to show some loyalty to Kidwell but, the club bosses need to make the hard call, and get a replacement for him, pay him out and put out a call for a defence coach that has a proven record not just as a player. We have had some vg defenders in Price, Higgs, Muggo, Hindy  along with Jason Smith and Dymock and so on. but how many would make our defence stronger? Smith would likely choke on his cigarettes, but could Price do the job, or perhaps Muggo although no spring chicken perhaps Dymock??

            Certainly someone different is needed.

As for Kidwell, and have said this previously when he was offered a position at Wests, Bellamy gave him a raving reference, likewise he did Macquire and I tend to reccolect that he also said similar with BA when he was leaving.  How long did Kidwell last at Wests?  he went there in 2014 how long did he last even though it was only as assistant coach, I suspect he was there when O'Neil was their Football manager prior to his resignation owing to misconduct. How close do they work together?

            • Colin, assistant coaches don’t operate independently of the head coach. They are there to support the head coach and his system.

              • Brett, I understand that, but I would suggest that assistant coaches that are appointed for specific roles/tasks that are meant to improve the teams overal abilities on the padddock come game day would have a fair input into area of training, whether with the head coach present or not. Perhaps also the specific assistant coach would be the one who would be in a fair degree of control as to how his role was to improve the individuals as well as the teams performances.

On that score, how are we performing better this year in regards to defence than we were last year prior to Kidwells appointment?   An assistant is employed for a specific task, the head coach is over them yes, but they all have a role to play, and from my perspective I can see a big improvement in the attacking side of the eels, and the stats show we are 4th highest scorers still, and 4th last in defence, what does that tell us?

  • Simplified, we are a badly coached football team, the main worrying issues we have with our team are still there, a smarter coach would have addressed that already. If we do happen to make the 8 it will only be to make up the numbers.!!!
